I've pulled transmissions from Ford (Ranger & F150), GMC, Chevy, and Toyota 4x4 trucks, and every time I think, "man, there must be something else holding it". Each time, it was just stuck.

I saw someone above mention "finding the gap" and prying. One thing I do is find that gap, insert a screwdriver or whatever, but instead of prying there, I try to apply force from the opposite side and therefore using that as a leverage point, not a pry point. I am always paranoid I'll crack some aluminum by prying.

I like the idea of tension from the come along to the RR diff, then shaking the shit out of it. I just pulled one from a V8 Mustang 2 months ago, and ended up rocking it so hard I thought a motor mount might be damaged before those dowel pins finally let loose.

They can be a real pain sometimes. Glad you Got R' Done.

I once helped pull and install a transmission TWICE in one night and under the gun for time.

Pulled the transmission, replaced the clutch/pressure plate/Throw Out Bearing and put it all back together. Brand new Throw Out Bearing was defective and seized instantly the first time the clutch was operated. Pulled it all apart, found the old throw out bearing on the floor or the trash bin and put it all back together with the old bearing in place. In was late evening and the owner needed the car to get to work on the midnight shift. We got back together and he made it to work. I think that throw out bearing out lived the car !
