Got the replacement trans out of the donor truck and got it installed into the other truck. Well, I still have to bolt up the torque converter and hook up everything, but I got all the main trans bolts in the bell crank. Defiantly alot easier without jack stands in the way. I pulled the trans with the transfer case still attached, but if I ever do it again I'll pull them apart before I try to put the trans back in, then put the case on afterwards. I'm getting there. I'll have it all done tomorrow. And if this transmission don't work, I think I'll just drink the rest of the weekend. I had to switch out transfer cases cause one had a push button 4x4 button. And the other one had a jay shifter. Push button would be kind of nice, and switching the actuator around wouldn't be bad but wiring that button and maybe having to change stuff around just isn't worth it for me. So I opted to just use the original transfer case with the j shifter. I still have to blow out the lines and the cooler, and my buddy is wanting me to replace the screen and filter and I'll have to hook up the kick down cable so I'll have to pull the pan anyway. Maybe it will all go ok. But dam I hate automatic transmissions. Unless there on a new vehicle that I don't ever have to work on.Oh, I almost forgot. That one I just took out had that little black bolt in the torque converter. So u bet your ass I'm going to put it in first. I'm not one to try something else unless I have to.

Considering you didn’t mention throwing things and misplacing parts it sounds like it’s going well. Tell your buddy the screen is fine just rinse it with brake cleaner but if he is adamant about changing it do not over tighten it. You can cause valve body issues. Did you enjoy the cooling lines? I had to reuse my neutral safety switch but got lucky as it had the cable setup already and I changed them with transfercase on it because they were both J shift. This transmission was less fun with much larger problems. 6 speed ZF automatic. 7ABB18B2-87DB-4127-B7F1-CD6B4DB28F41.jpg B20C6706-B165-4FB3-9FA2-A9A4461658A9.jpg 62C0EB81-4D52-4C69-9043-862B479F2C96.jpg

Well surprise surprise.. The donor trans is junk also. All that work for nothing. It slips worse than the first one. If it wasn't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck. I'm too tired to even think right now.

Where did you get the trans from? A junk yard or a jdm place?

Did you adjust your cable properly ? That cable stretches over the years causing the transmission to slip . Tighten the cable up and try again . The procedure to adjust the cable is at the bottom of that link I sent you above . Its a pdf file

M not done throwing a fit. But this guy don't know when to stop. Now he wants me to convert it over to a manual. He has a five speed trans. I do think it a r150 but not sure? The whole for the shift fork is on the left side so I'm pretty sure it is. But the big question is..... Will the transfer case off the auto trans work on the Manuel? The hole patterns are the same. Anyone used a auto trans transfer case on a 5speed, or vise versa? I know I'll have to get a computer , but as far as a pedal and mater cylinder and slave cylinder , we got all of that. Flywheel, clutch, shift fork and that stuff he will have to buy. But only if that transfer case will work?

Out of a wreck that he bought. And are you talking about the kick down cable?

If your talking about the kick down cable then I had to replace it cause the one that was in there was cut off at the other end cause someone stole the throttle body and cut it.

I adjusted it a couple times. Cause I had to replace it. The trans just slips real bad in D but when I put it down in first and reverse it will want to go. I drained all the fluid out of the pan because I knew I was going to have to remove it because of the cable. And I also drained and blew out the lines and cooler. I ended up outing 4 quarts of fluid back in and started it while I put the 4th one in. It's hard to tell where the level is because that dip stick is so long and bent and hard to cram down in there so when you pull it out there's fluid all up and down it. But I read where they hold 4 quarts.

I'm pretty sure that I didn't miss anything when I put this trans in. I used the torque converter that was with it and of course got all the bolts in the flex plate and converter. So I'm thinking it was just a bad trans. It slips when u put it in D but when u put it down in first it seems fine. Also seems fine in reverse, and shifts fine. It just don't hardly go in D. Has anyone ran into this?

Let me know what you think?(gearcruncher) If you think it's a bad trans then I won't waste anymore time with it and start trying to piece together turning it into a manual. That's if you know if the transfer case off of that A340F will work on a R150? He has an extra r150. And wants me to swap it out and convert it all over. He has all the small parts, but will have to get the clutch, flywheel, shift fork, and a manual computer. I'm hoping the same harness will work. There just all those plugs for the auto trans that won't plug into anything. The transfer case has the same bolt pattern as his manual trans but I'm not sure about it working? That's if your opinion on this a340 I just installed is the same as mine and that it's junk? I just don't see why it would catch good in 1st but when u put it up in 2nd or D it slips? What's ur thoughts?

If you only used four quarts you are about 3.5 quarts too low.

    I agree 100%

I am hoping you are checking the fluid in park with the engine running ?
The transmission pump needs to be pumping to get a proper fluid level on the dipstick .
If you check the trans with the engine off , you will see a very overfilled transmission

Come on guys. Yes I was checking the level with the engine running. But like I said the dipstick has major issues when you try to put it in. Once You have it 60% in then you have to cram it in an inch at a time. So getting a true reading is hard cause when you pull it out there fluid all up the stick. I looked up how much trans fluid. And people were talki g about how the owners manual said two quarts. But then they all agreed on 4 to 5 quarts. But I guess that isn't with the cooler empty. I saw last night on another thread that it said around 7 quarts total . I'll put another 3to 4 quarts in while I let it idle and see if that makes a difference?

Yes. I agree the dipstick sucks, some worse than others but that thing takes roughly 7.5 - 7.750 quarts. Honest.

Ok. I guess 4 quarts was with the cooler
I believe you. I'm fixing to head over there and crank it up and add another 3.5 quarts. I'll let you know if it makes a difference. Thanks. I don't know everything, and that's exactly why I get on here and ask questions .

I put another 3.5 quarts in it. But it didn't help, it's doing the same thing. It's acting like it's not kicking down into first gear when you put it in D. But if you put it in L or first, it will catch and take off as it should. And also reverse is fine too. It will shift fine , just cruising. It's just putting it in Drive it slips alot. I'm saying that we just got unlucky and got a bad transmission. Unless there is some other way that you can adjust it that I don't know about? I want to try to use some of that Lucas trans slip stuff , but we can't sale this thing to someone knowing the trans is crap. Like the guy did to us. Be different if we were going to trade it in to a car lot. But even with a good trans this is only worth about 4 grand and people buying a vehicle for that amount usually don't have the 2500 bucks to fix it and need it to be a reliable vehicle.
