It wasn't bad at all. There's wasn't any metal on the magnets. Someone had the pan off before. I could tell from all the red rvt, but how recently and what for , I don't know.

It didn't look nothing like the first one I pulled out. That thing had every bit of clutch material on all the magnets.

We were just thinking and hopeing that it was a good transmission since the vehicle was wrecked. It was hit in the front passenger side. But nothing was pushed into the motor. Everything on the motor, even the fan blades are good. So I don't think it has hit hard enough to hurt the trans. But you never know about how it was towed. They could have trashed it then. I'm just trying to make sure I crossed all my tees and dotted all my i's . Cause I would hate for it to be something I didn't do right or overlooked.

I still have plenty to do, or I might just go into the toyota salvage business.

This is my little project I got about 3 months ago. Motor was blown up. It had been sitting for 10 years. So I had to replace the tank and that stuff. But I only spent about 300 bucks to rebuild the motor and other than the horrible paint job some butthead put on it , she is straight and rust free and runs great. Inside is good except for the headliner. Other than that , I got a good little run around truck. For 500 bucks and about another 400 in her, I'm tickled . And you can bet ur ass she's a five speed.

I am going to suggest tightening the throttle valve much more than you have it adjusted now .
Low range first gear and reverse use much higher pressure than drive range .
I have a feeling the cable is much too loose .

It's an easy accessible adjustment and should put the good/bad transmission to rest .

You could remove the five speed from that absolutely FUGGGGGGLY truck... lol, just kidding. When adjusting that pressure control cable did you notice any difference from extreme to extreme. It should be obvious and pretty dramatic. If not, are you certain when you installed the cable to the valve body that it’s correct? Yeah, I know, you gotta drain and drop the pan to verify but at this point you will be dropping it anyway. Listen to the gearcruncher dude. He knows his stuff.

Them are fightin words. U can talk about a man's ugly kids and ugly wife, But don't talk about his dog and truck. But the only difference I noticed was when it shifted. And yeah I could tell the difference. I drove it with it completely tight and loose. Oh. And she only cost me 500 bucks. And I gaurantee you there's alot of guys out there with ugly wives that cost them a whole hell of alot more.

I remember that show but not the power wagon. I liked the one called Riptide. I think anyway. It had a pink helicopter and a bad ass late 50's or early 60's corvette. A guy down the street where I grew up had the exact same vette. His daughter wasn't bad either.

Now I remember that show. It was two brothers . A blonde dude and that other guy played the Mystery Saudi on the A team. The captain that was in charge. And turned. Morris. I think was his name on A team. But that dude. Wasn't that truck like black and gold? I thought it was nice. But there's only one bad 80's truck. Fall guy.

Yes sir I did. So should I toss in the towel, or you got any more ideas? I just hate that it's such a nice 4runner . Everything is cared for and clean. It's the one with the roof rack. And putting a 2800 dallor refurbished trans would kill any profit so he won't do that.

Hey there geargrinder and babies daddy.... I picked up an old Haynes manual and just happened to look at the trans capacity of a 4runner with 3.4. And it says it holds 10.5 quarts. I know alot of people say don't rely on those manuals, but could that be right? I got 8 quarts in it. And like I was saying it's hard to tell where the level is on the dipstick, so I might not had it as full as I thought. But just say I'm 2 quarts low. Wouldn't that cause it to slip in Drive?

Being low at all sometimes will. I was 1 quart low one time and it kept shuddering on me. Put to full and went away

my suggestion would be to put a small bend in the dipstick at the crosshatch , then check both sides of the level indicator .

Well I went ahead and added fluid to it and it has 10.5 quarts and I can tell that it is full. But it didn't make a difference. So I'm throwing in the towel. And I'm going to turn it into a manual. We got everything but a clutch, flywheel, computer, and shift fork. But before I set into doing that project, I'm going to pull a auto trans out of a two wheel drive that is wrecked and put it in another two wheel drive that is in great shape. That way we can put it up for sale and try to get one gone. I'm gonna try to start it tomorrow for a few hours then finish up this weekend. Then I'll do the swap. Then I'll have another Manuel swap and 4wheel drive swap to do on the same 4runner. I've never pulled one of these auto transmissions apart, but how hard is it to rebuild one? I've heard it wasn't worth it but if I can put 350 in one and sale it and make 300 then that something I would like to do in my spare time. Plus it's hands on learning. Hell, it was built in the first place, so if you put it back together just how it came apart, with new parts of course, shouldn't it be good to go? Most guys say oh no, there are alot of parts in there and just shake there heads and say you can't do it. But I tend to look over those guys sometimes, and I usaully end up learning something they never do. So what ur thoughts on rebuilding one of these( gearcruncher) it seems that you have probably been into one or two of em?
