We just want to know where the 30-50 transmission failures number came from, and why 30-50 out of 20k sold a month equals the downfall of Toyota reliability.

Doesnt really matter who made those statements, I would be disappointed in the world if someone didnt ask questions.

You guys, tOyOtA is corporate sHiLlZ.....

    Or something.

One failure. 50 failures. Doesn't mean squat against a million of these trucks on the road.

I see you pulled your post from the thread i'll refresh it for you, and you still haven't come forward with why 2nd and now 3rd gen transmissions have internal issues that will eventually lead to a failures(you've seen them?) and where that info has been hiding for all these years till now.

    gearcruncher said:
I have seen a lot of 3rd gen transmission failures . This is not the first one , nor will it be the last .
We dont get to hear what internal transmission parts are failing while on warranty .
Now that these trucks are starting to get some mileage on them , the aftermarket transmission shops will be taking over and along with this , pattern failures as well as fixes will be outlined just like we saw in the 2nd gen transmissions .Anything mass produced has its problems
    Get ready for the storm

Obviously the auto transmissions in the 3rd gen trucks have programming issues as far as their constant shifting while going down the highway. It seems reasonable to suspect that this constant shifting will bring about mechanical issues as these trucks start to get more miles on them. I had the TSB update done on the transmission programming and it helped with the in-town gear shifts with a mild improvement on the highway. Yesterday I did a 30 mile drive on a busy highway in flat Kansas. Constant gear shifting with every small hill and with changes in speed caused by traffic. Logically this increases the likelihood of problems.

I'm sure you are aware how this tranny works in 4,5,6 gears. Not all those shifts are shifts....

All transmission constantly shift these days. It’s what they are designed to do to save fuel. My F150 with the 10 speed shifts a billion times more than my Tacoma does. Ford even displays the gear number on the dash. Every time I leave a red light it’s 1-3-5-6-7-8 just to tootle along in traffic (in normal mode)

In towing mode or sport mode
1-2-3-4-5-6-7 just to get rolling, every single time.

The Aisin AC60F transmission in the Tacoma is in many other platforms as well. It’s been very robust and reliable. You may not like the shift point programming, and Toyota obviously worked a bit on that, but the unit itself has proven itself.

Naysayers are likely Ford or Jeep execs lurking the forums.

With the nonsense I’m reading here, it’s the only logical conclusion.

I’ve sussed you out already as a Fiat exec......because you used “Daimler” to describe Jeep (Fiat). All the Fiat guys do that.

I'm thinking the 0.69 and 0.58 ratios are so extreme that the computer is going to frequently logic the need to downshift when on the highway. It is as you wrote, for the mileage. But still...it sucks. I do see all of this increasing wear; all things being equal.
