When I have to make a quick or abrupt stop the transmission shifter moves about an inch or so just before the wheels totally stop. Does anybody have a solution for this issue? I keep thinking it may be the rear trans. mount.

It's an 89 Toyota Pickup. I got some stuff done to it.. FJ axles going under it soon.
I assume you have a 5 speed? Only makes sense...unless your doing coke and saying your auto transmission shifter is moving lol.

anyways..not sure exactly what your talking about..but check the shifter bushing anyways..it can cause abnormal play..some play in shifter is normal though.

No coke! It's an automatic. The shifter moves forward (towards the dash) just before I come to a full stop when I have to make an abrupt or quick stop.

Yeah thats normal for us first genner. Only fix to that is solid tranny mount. Or pump a bit of grease into the drive shaft, It'll help slow down the movement for a bit.

I can feel my auto shifter move in my 2nd gen Base model. Nothing like the OP, but In do feel it. In a weird way, I kinda like it, it's very mininal.

I do get some decent vibes at stop lights sometimes. It's that trans wobbling around. Throw it in "N", instantly gone.

The trans bushings are like jelly. I've had the truck in the air looking at it and you wiggle the crap out of the trans and watch those bushing bounce and bounce. Don't know if it was designed that way (to allow for max flexing) or if polyurethane bushings would be a good idea.
