2013 Toyota Tacoma V6 4wd with about 200k miles on it. I’ve recently had a pretty severe shaking upon acceleration, between around 20-40mph. If you accelerate quick, it isn’t felt. Only when your slowly coming up to speed is when it really was an issue.

Anyway, brought it down to a local shop for a diagnostic. Their technicians took it for a test drive and took a look, and found that I need to replace my transmission. Quoted nearly $6k total for parts and labor.

Wanted to ask around here and perhaps get another quote before moving forward with the repair. Anyone else have this issue??

    Manual or automatic?

Have you changed or modded or lifted at all recently?

Have you checked your U joints and carrier bearing?

Have you checked your fluid level?

    And active or pending codes?

6k for a trans swap seems very high I would consult another shop.

Sounds like your transmission is slipping. When was the last time the transmission fluid was changed?

K&N Air Filter, all exterior bulbs have been changed over to LED with addition of resistors installed in line w/each socket. Have now been down to the head gasket and am building back up to hopefully run at full power again soon.
I'm having the same issue with my 2006 Toyota Tacoma, 2.7L 4-cylinder, automatic transmission, rear wheel drive (2WD/RWD) 2 door Access-cab truck.
In my situation specifically; I've had an issue arise recently which I am trying to identify the source of that is causing an audible noise (sounds like a heavy clicking noise consistent with the engine speed) that is most noticeable when accelerating gently at speeds of 15-55 mph or also noticeable when upon reaching a desired speed and letting off the accelerator and idle coasting the noise is present (especially when it has just been started from cold) but not present when accelerating using closer to full throttle acceleration. During times of acceleration using close to or full throttle acceleration the noise stops. My theory being that as it becomes fully accelerating the issue part, "unknown source of noise", gets put into use and thereby gets caught up in the creation of torque and then that failing part which was clicking becomes less audible or noticeable as it comes more close into its normal sync with everything when under high load situations such as upper acceleration range. That is until I let off the gas again at which point when decelerating the clicking noise once again becomes apparent heard to be clicking at speeds similar or relative to the engine speed.

I have no lift on the truck nor have I modded anything. The U-joints are new and not the source of the noise. The carrier bearing isn't new but doesn't seem to be the source of the noise either, it is more forward originating than the position of the carrier bearing. I don't have any engine codes that are related (or so I assume) to this issue. The 1 code that exist currently is P0420, which indicates: Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1), and I understand the source problem of that code and have addressed it to the best of my ability for now.

I intend to change my oil within the next few days to make certain that my oil is fresh, new and at the right level. I've recently completely drained, flushed, and then replaced my coolant and it is at the correct level. My transmission fluid is also at the correct level and is in good fluid condition as I have drained and replaced it within roughly 6-9 months ago.

I had at first thought that it was an inner tie rod that had become loosened and was vibrating but have become less convinced of this theory recently. Mostly because the issue has become more constant and more apparent yet my steering hasn't had any relative changes in its responsiveness, thus negating my initial theory.

Any help or insight would be appreciated. Feel free to ask me about any other symptoms and I'll reply as quickly as I can. I would like to find and address/fix the issue myself if possible. However, my worst case scenario would be with the truck ending up in a transmission shop with a $6000 repair quote!
