does this happen to everyone else? or just me?

I back out of my driveway (on a pretty good slope for a driveway). I come to a stop and try to go forward again. The transmission clicks and slips. my mechanic could NOT reproduce the problem, but i could reproduce it over and over again. he also said, since it didnt generate a code, he had nothing to go on. my first toyota brand vehicle in the family, so maybe this is normal? Never happend to my dakota / 300 / civic / outlander sport .. so not sure why its happening to my tacoma.

Hmmm, I noticed you didn't engage the parking brake when you put it in park. Do you leave it on the driveway like that?

Mine does it when it starts to roll backwards on a steep slope then I hit the gas. I figured it was like the brake/gas over-ride nanny toyota installed after the prius issues.

Yeah, that's normal. Just the 'hill assist' feature. When you're at an angle and let off the gas (while in drive) and start to roll back, that kicks in.

This happened to me on a very steep inclined driveway. Gave it more gas and it it just went. didn't know if it was transmission slipping or traction control coming on.

Yup it’s a feature. probably why your mechanic couldn’t reproduce.

Welcome. Sorry you're having this problem.

    That sounds like crap...

Mechanic couldn't duplicate so did you show them the video?

Also, I would recommend reading up on posting here - Year, Model, Drive Train, 2 or 4 wheel drive.... that kind of stuff. People are going to ask so it's helpful to be proactive..

Edit: Yeah, I don't have a third gen so I prolly should not offer an opinion...still sounds like crap IMHO :crapstorm:

I would try parking with the PB engaged - engaged before letting your foot off the brake. And try the procedure and see if that changes anything. I for one never park anywhere without the PB engaged, especially on a slope.

Hill start assist in an auto is silly. That would have alarmed me also.

That happened to me on a speed bump at the local grocery store once. Freaked me out but I figured it was some type of assist feature. I was able to reproduce it and confirm it so I stopped worrying.

I don't think so; slip indicator light didn't come on.

    None as of yet
totally normal. On a steep incline there isn't enough power going through the torque converter at idle to hold you so you roll backwards. The hill assist kicks in and pulses the brakes (the noise you hear that sound horrible but is actually also normal) to keep you from going backwards out of control or some other situation a lawyer thought of. Freaked me out the first time it happened but now i know to just jump on the pedal. for me its about 12% or greater incline but ymmv
