That's a great idea, I will call them and see what i can get worked out after i pick up the truck and get all the paperwork. It's not a bad idea to call them anyways, just another report to them about the issue. Thanks guys.

They said that the low fluid more than likely had a huge part in the vibration. The only immediate thing they said right away was the rear brake shoes were pretty tight. With the Truck on the lift, Trans in Neutral, it took a lot of effort to turn the rear tires. They backed off the shoes a turn or so each and told me to give that a try and to see if it continues to do it, and to bring it back if not.

Well, So far the drive home made it feel like an entirely different truck. The shifting feels firmer now, reminds me a lot of my 2nd gen. I was able to hop on the highway and hold 6th gear almost most of the way home, where it would be in and out of 6th and 5th, sometimes 4th. I can't tell if the Vibration while braking is still there, and it's hard to say what was the root cause....whether it was fluid that fixed it, or the brakes.

What a world of a difference 1.5qts makes right?

I show up to my work every day and do my job, maybe one day Toyota will do the same.

    Too many to list...
My dealer "checked" my fluid when I brought it in to have my tires swapped (dealer bought my stock ones back for $500 which was nice). The service advisor told me they "added 1/2 quart like I requested." This language leads me to believe they didn't really check it, although this dealer has been good so far and I haven't had any issues with them. I noticed a VERY slight improvement in the R-D issue (I have some of the surging sensation described by others). I suppose I should try to add more fluid to see if that fixes the problem, just haven't had any time recently to mess with much. It LOVES to shift and hold a lower gear at the slightest of inclines, but from what I've heard that is the transmission programming/atkinson cycle trying to be efficient on the flats.
FYI I have just over 1700 mi on it. Trans has "learned" a little bit, but not enough change for me to really describe a huge difference. Hoping a little more fluid will help the R-D surge and smooth out some of the shifting at low speeds. first/second can be a little jerky, and I did have the "clunk" when shifting down to first coming to a stop. That 1/2 quart seems to have helped that. Highway it usually seems smooth.

Could someone put together a DYI on how to check and fill the transmission for the 3rd gen. Perhaps this will be helpful to those who's dealers refuse to check.

Kaw. I am also experiencing the delay when turning into my driveway. I have the R D delay and also noticed the same type of delay when I leave off the gas and make the turn into my sloped driveway. When I give it gas after making the turn there is a few second delay before the transmission catches. Anyone else notice this?

Dropped my truck off at the dealer just now for the R to D delay. They said the tranny fluid is a thick WS (world standard) type and can take some time to heat up and expand and could be the reason for this. I asked them to check the fluid level based upon what others have reported here about being up to 1 qt low. I honestly hope they do more than just hook up the computer and try to tell me the fluid level is fine without actually ever manually checking the ATF level.

Just an update. Took mine in for service issue. Dealer stated they checked and did seem to be a bit low. Added transmission fluid.

Also had another issue with drivers side seat cover. Dealer ordered new cover and cushion. Going in this weekend to have it replaced.

Have not experience revs and delayed movement since fluid added. But it also has not been below zero since they say fluid was added.

Well about 2 weeks now since having mine topped off and still experiencing intermittent cold start R to D slippage. it does happen less often though but with no consistency even when conditions appear to be similar. So weird as some mornings it shifts super solid and others cold starts had a well defined 1 to 2 second lag in shift. Also weird as general shifting when warmed up feels better.

Also a new possible issue but with a well warmed up transmission.
Was out this weekend hauling 2 snow bikes up a somewhat steep gravel road traveling at approx 10 kph and felt what seemed to be the transmission slip every 20 to 30 seconds while maintaining a steady throttle position. The 'slip' would last the same duration as my morning cold slip (1 to 2 seconds) as the engine revs increases as if having no load. Thought maybe it was a traction issue but shifted into 4 HI and had same problems.

Booked it in back at the dealership mid next week. Good times... keep you posted.

No worries. It is what it is...
I am sure WCT will do what they can but they do want it overnight this time.
Yours still all good after the top up?

Ya, still good. There is a little slip when cold. No different than anything else I've owned. Shift it between reverse and drive and wait a second for it to grab. But before when I gave it gas, it would move forward but wouldn't grab, now it does, so I consider it normal. On your other problem on the up-hill, did it seem like it might be searching for another gear? or is it just slipping in the same gear? Just wondering because the lower gears want to shift up fast. I notice that first through third come on really fast. Guessing for fuel economy.
