I didn't experience much surging however when I would accelerate hard then let off the truck would not upshift and stay at 3k RPM for 3-5 seconds with my foot completely off the gas.

Hey, If you're happy with it then to each their own. I wasn't happy driving a $30k Truck that did not have the proper amount of transmission fluid.
The tech at the dealer was shocked at how low it was. If you have an OR with the tow I'd recommend getting it checked out, they did my 5K service and checked the fluid in an hour and a half.

They didn't seem to know much either. Doesn't help that they are a dual shop. Volvo/Toyota.

Mine does this as well. For some reason, if I keep my foot on the brake while shifting from R to D, I don't feel that "clunk", but gonna convey to my dealership when my first overall maintenance is due.

Update on my transmission after the dealer added fluid. Its currently 19 degrees here in Baltimore and I always warm the truck up before driving, Since the fluid has been added to the correct amount there is a very noticeable difference. The truck responds right away in first gear when touching the accelerator, No more rev then go. Also the truck down shifts and up shifts now flawlessly. I'm now very happy with how the truck performs. Glad I got it looked at.

I tried having the dealer filling up the fluid and they say the fluid is normal and within specs and they will not add any more. Still doing the same thing but i notice that when i put it in Drive after reverse and let go of the break slowly it does not do it that often

I have a 16 TRD OR with tow package. When new my trans was doing most of the quirky things described here. I brought it back to my dealer, Muller Toyota in Clinton NJ. They checked the fluid level and said it was ok. I have about 2k miles on it now and it seems that most of the problems have gone away. Every once in a while it seems a little jumpy when shifting into reverse though. I will say this truck took some time to break in before it felt right.

I'm taking mine there on Friday ahead of the snow-pocalypse. Have had the delay to engage/spike to 3300 RPM when shifting from park to drive since day one and have experienced the reverse clunk on several occaisons.

Nice, The good news is they have already dealt with mine and stated I was the first they saw so they will definitely check yours.

Experiencing the same kind of tranny slippage with mine. Left it overnight at the dealer yesterday. It's in today for it's 1000Km (600 mile) check. Told them about the issue and the service advisors looked at each other with a surprised look and said "2016?". Anyway, they parked it where they will need to back it out so they can check it this morning. Will post what they have to say when I pick it up tonight. Kind of expecting the typical reply "Normal for the vehicle", but we'll see.

So, just got a call from my service advisor, "transmission oil was low from the factory". She didn't say by how much, but I would guess the same as most people are seeing.

How long did they take to actually check the levels on yours? Assuming I bring it into them almost at temp is it usually a drop overnight thing or in/out in under 2 hours?

Which dealer took care of you? I am curious because I may go to them when my 5k is due. Not having any problems with my truck but hearing negative feedback on Riverview Service Dept has me skeptical.

I dropped mine off at 7:30am and told them to keep it for the day. They called me at 11:50 to tell me the news and it was fixed. I would give them at least 2-3 hours. A lot of my buddies are service writers and techs and with the storm coming they're seeing a surge in service because everyone wants to get their vehicles prepared.

Thanks man I really appreciate that. I'm in South Scottsdale area so yea that's a bit of a haul but not nearly as bad as coming from maricopa. Ouch

@Pittrider Are you using the dealership in Pitt? Who was the service writer if you don't mind me asking? I have the same issue and dont want to leave it with them overnight to diagnose if possible.

Wasn't able to duplicate the issue today. Wondering if I'm not low enough to reliably prove it. Might just wait out for the 5K service interval. Appointment is right around the window when the shit is going to hit the fan with weather.

I had mine topped off at Toyota as it was about 3/4 qt. low and I thought it had helped a bit over the past month. Today it was lagging from park to drive for almost 5 seconds at several times. The truck wasn't even cold. I thought it was related to the ATF level but maybe not???
