    I agree!

If I have a tune place do the update for me, does it void the rest of my powertrain?

Print off the tsb and bring it in to the dealer or find a KDMax guy by you for an all around better driving experience.

If you just do the TSB update we are putting in the same ECU flash the dealer would be doing. Difference would be that we don't have the "authorized modification" sticker to put in your engine compartment. If a dealer hooks your truck up to TechStream they would read the 04A61 ECU ID but it would not be in your truck's history. Sort of the same as doing an oil change or some other maintenance item somewhere other than your dealer.

If you decide to also get the tune, this is the FAQ I have up on my website:

Will tuning my truck void my warranty?

While the chances are slim, no reputable tuner would ever guarantee that there would never be a potential warranty affect. As with any aftermarket modification, if it can be proven that the mod caused the failure, it could potentially have an effect on repair approval. To date we have had no reports of this happening. If this is a concern, we we gladly flash your vehicle back to the stock tune prior to any warranty work and re-apply the tune after completion, all at no charge.

I tried to get them to do the TSB update on my 2019, but kept getting the "we cannot replicate the issue" response on the shift issues. I finally just gave up and just live with it as-is. It really is not that big a deal to me.

But curious, if I go down there and ask them to do this on my dime, will they? If yes, how much?

Y’all are awesome for this much info!

So just to confirm, a flash can be undone, and isn’t permanent? Aka.. leaves no trace behind lol.

also, a tuner can update using the official Toyota server software, or provide a specific custom tune?

Not so much undone as overwritten. Also, "no trace behind" is a relative term depending on how much trouble you want to go through. An engineer/technician could pull your ECU and perform a forensic analysis to determine how many times an ECU has been flashed, but you really have to want to go after that information. It's not something a dealer would typically have the ability to do, and reading the ECU ID with TechStream or an OBDII reader would show the stock ECU ID, even after the KDMax tune. For the TSB updates we use the same Toyota Calibration Update Wizard (CUW) files, but we store them locally on our hard drives as opposed to downloading them from the Toyota TIS (Technical Information System) each time the way dealers do.

LOL thanks, but our guys in SC can and will take just as good care of you without the need to come all the way to south Florida, if that's the route you decide to go.
