So I had my clutched replaced at 130k miles, and after I had it replaced I found several bell housing bolts loose and took it back to the shop to have it fixed, however I am now worried that I have other things wrong with my truck. After getting my truck back I started driving it and noticed that when shifting in to 2nd gear going 10 miles an hour up to my shifting point of like 22 ish miles an hour the truck shakes and sounds like a bucket of bolts are just loose in the transmission. this is the case in 3rd and 4th too, but as soon as I shift into 5th and get above 45mph it stops and sounds normal. This noise never occured before getting my clutch replaced, and when I took it to the shop to ask them about the noise they said that I had to drive it harder so it didnt make the noise. But it sounds like its falling apart and I dont trust it.

I would also like to note, the vibration isn't major, it feels more like if you were driving over very light rumble strips, or if there was a very small shake in the steering wheel. So not major, but still noticable.

and finally, one more thing, the truck has been driving perfectly other than the noise and slight vibration and it has been like 4 months since the clutch job, and nearly 15k miles.

If they left bell housing bolts loose who the hell knows what else they could have messed up. Did they forget to fill it with gear oil? Is the clutch cover coming loose? Probably have to pull the trans again and look

something could be damaged internally if it was driven with loose bell housing

That should not happen, and do bring it somewhere else. Let a transmission shop guy drive it around. Probably unrelated: but I do think your shift points are a bit low. And you could wind it out a bit more.

Typically at what shifting points should it be driven too?

If it wasnt several months ago, or nearly 15k miles since the replacement I would, but I doubt now they would do anything.

Ya know, on second thought this seems like a can of worms and a topic for another thread lol. I think I made that comment as too much of a “statement”. At the end of the day I think going by feeling is best.

But yeah, I’ve been accused of lugging my engine so I’ve upped it a bit. Your clutch lasted 130 so you’re doing a lot right lol. All I can say is it feels much smoother to me to shift closer to 3000 rpm than 2000, and 3500 if I need to accelerate with most traffic.

typically I shift at 2750-3300 for accelerating through traffic, and when I am just leisurely driving around I shift at 2k or slightly above, in my truck this typically equates to a shift every 10mph

Cool! I’m just realizing what transmission and engine you have..apologies. But it’s fun to talk about, regardless. Yeah I think in my 6 speed I’m usually shifting into 5th at 50.

all good, I wish I had a 6 speed, the 5 is very weird on interstates, I hate driving at 75mph sitting at like 3k rpms constantly, not fun
