2009 Tacoma TRD, Stuck in Gear and will not start. ( I think reverse ) I was using it to push my docks in. Did the overide and it worked for a bit. This was during COVID. Bought a new Tacoma and this one has sat for 2+ years. New battery, new gas, lights all come on. It's up on a Quickjack in my driveway now. Disconnected shifter cable and lever will not move. used Blaster, Wd 40 etc. Locked solid. Checking fuses today, Would the park/neutral switch lock it ? Lots of rust. sprayed it also. Dash lights indicate it's in 4W low but the switch is set on 2W high. Throwing a code P0705. I am not sure if that is a symptom or cause.

Your talking about the lever at the transmission correct?

I'd suspect the range sensor is the culprit, it's on the shaft on the passenger side of the transmission. It's aluminum and the shaft is steel so it tends to get very corroded.

I think that might be right. I thought if I tapped the shifter lever with a hammer it would break lose. Is it on the same rod as the shifter lever on the other side ? How easy is it to replace ? I hear it can be rough and it could break. Also damaging a seal can be a big problem.

Yes it's on the same rod, I wouldn't get too crazy with it.

They typically have to be cut off while taking care to not damage the shaft or seal.

Maybe heat it with map gas or would that melt a seal ?

I wouldn't want to heat it too much.
