So I may swap my trans, but just a quick question first.

Will any A340F trans work with the 5VZ in our Tacoma? For example the sequoia has the A340F and I can get that + Tcase pretty cheap out of said sequoia (V8 though). Will that work? Or does it have to be a V6 A340F? I want to be able to have a shop just swap the trans and everything be plug and play. Can I do this with the Seqouia or Tundra A340F trannys?

I know I have a prerunner, I plan on doing a 4X4 conversion, and so I’d just swap in tranny+Tcase and then leave the front disconnected for now+leave it in 2WD till I add the rest up front.

edit: if there’s any other threads on this I would definitely appreciate a link… I can’t seem to find out if this will work or not. Am I overthinking it?

I know at least the bell housing will probably need to transfer, I do not know if the output shafts are the same

But ya you should be able to do tranny+Tcase no problem. I ran that for like a year before adding the front diff & hubs (hardest part imo, which I was not expecting)

It is so awesome to know someone else has done this. I’ve been daydreaming this swap since I was 16 Lol! 21, and soon I’m finally starting it.

Yup, don't forget the rear driveshaft, trans mount, bolts, and fluids. Gear position sensor between even tacos is different so I would assume sequoia and tundra would be further still. Also trans varies between cable driven or electric, so at least know which you have

I actually have a one piece ready to go for the rear, and a shop is doing labor + fluids for a good deal. I just need to source the parts…

other option for tcase & trans:

one of the 4cyl tacomas. I can get trans+tcase for 650, is this worth it? Is it plug in play for the shop or would it have to be a V6 taco 1996-2002 (i know the trans changed in 03/04 so those wouldn’t work)…
