I know there are some good auto to manual swap threads out there for 1st gens. Probably never been done with a 4runner trans, but figured you guys might know.

    4 run, 2 don't
    4Runner?

Auto to auto I say yes, but auto to manual...I can't confirm bell housing, etc.

    Are they both 4x4?

The end Goal you want a 5 speed 3rd generation 4Runner??

Any manual to automatic transmission swap has the same issues.

Here again use the transfer case attached to manual transmission .

The interesting issue to get the 4Runner ADD system to work.

installing the Clutch pedal bracket and hydraulics .

    The different drive shaft lengths.

OP if you have emission inspections without the changing of the wiring the MIL will be on. Here in Pa that causes a failure to pass the test.

Now the wiring problem you can swap the engine harness and ECM from the Tacoma to the 4Runner .

Then repin the 4th ECM plug to match the 4Runner harness .

You could repin the ECM in the 4Runner to work.

Even having done a few of these swaps Things always slip my mind. Each swap is always going to be some what different.

Not something I would attempt with out some skilled help without the complete donor vehicle sitting within a few steps.

The grunt work is pretty basic .

Would a R-155 transmission work. There’s a R-155 for the 4x2 for sale. The R155F is for 4x4’s. We understand that the output is different for the 4x4’s. The R155 is on FB Market Place with 36k miles. It’s in central Texas.
