Anyone know where the transmission temp sensor location is in the 1st gen? I'm either going to buy a gauge or scan gauge, depending on the location of the stock sensor.

    Thanks

heard on here somewhere that it wont work with the scan guage . In saying this , you may have to go with an anolog/mechanical guage and tap into trans pan or converter " OUT " cooling line fitting . This depends on what transmission temp you want to monitor

My personal opinion , I want to know what temp is coming back into the pan after the oil has gone throguh the cooling process .

Here is an example of some for sale

Which leads to the question, would I want to tap into the pan to read the trans temp or on the output line to the cooler?

From what I've heard there is a code you can input, but it only works if you have the sensor, some Tacomas don't have one. Mine does, I now cause the light came on on my first wheeling trip, changed the fluid right after.

I would be taping into the out as I want the hottest the fluid gets. I've heard the sensor is in the pan which just came from the cooler which is what I don't want.

I want the exact opposite, though it would be nice to know both now that you mention it. I have been looking at the glowshifts, I like that they have a warning you can set.

I dont see why it wouldnt work going your way and using the hot converter line method . At least you have a sensor in the pan to let you know if the fluid is coming back too hot . All I can suggest at this point is making sure you get all the hardware you need . I just watched the install video for the glowshift product and you have to purchase extra wiring and adapters depending on your needs .
There are hundreds of guages out there . Glowshift was just an example . I also like them .

Good to know, reason I was looking at glowshift is they are the cheapest ones with a warning, the others I have found are $150 and up. Some people seem to dislike them but it seems most of them just don't like them cause they aren't a big name.

Using the picture above , there is a test port at the left rear . Looks like the manual linkage will be in the way .
The round cover behind the manual linkage is a servo which in a nutt shell applies the band .
The black plastic cable is used to tell the transmission how deep you have your foot into the gas pedal
