Has anyone disconnected their battery to reset the transmission?
Im wondering if theres any initial shifting pattern that has to be done after? Or anything?

Excellent tranny knowledge base, a sealed tranny seems like an excellent idea but instills pain for those who venture into wanting to service their own...

Here's a dumb question, but what's the purpose of changing to the Tundra valve body? Better shift points or what? Seems like it would have some issues with the ECU expecting the truck to shift and it doesn't.

I just bought my truck today. If I don't notice slipping or slow gear change from reverse to drive can I wait until 5000 miles to have the dealer to the check?

I posted that before the AC60F / AC60E came out early last year .
I didnt post it to indicate you could swap to a Tundra valve body . It was posted to familiarize you guys to the new 6 speed
The AB60 was the closest transmission to the new Tacoma transmission at the time .
It was posted because the AB60 transmission is similar to the new Tacoma transmission and you got to see what transmission shops are doing with the valve bodies
I will eventually remove it when I have a better video of performance enhancements made to the 2016 Tacoma

This thread was the straw that broke the back of whatever metaphor makes me not look like an idiot when I say that just ordered a 2016 in manual! My inner kid is screaming with joy! But seriously I was already super inclined to get it in manual and this helpful thread made the difference. I hope Toyota will fix the issue!

Took my Taco back to the dealer to have tranny and diff fluids checked. It was about a 25 mile drive to the dealer so the engine was at normal operating temperature. After being there less than thirty minutes, the service advisor tells me everything checked out fine and fluid levels are all good. I asked to speak with the technician. I asked the tech how he measured the tranny fluid level and he explained the process using the overflow hole and observing the discharge of fluid at a trickle rate. That all sounded good but, as I think about it, I'm not sure his test was accurate since the fluid temperature would likely be higher than the 95-113 degree range in which the test must be performed. I'm assuming the operating temperature would be close tio 200 degrees and it would take longer than 30 minutes to cool below 113 degrees.

What do folks think - should I challenge the dealer on whether they checked it correctly? Is my assumption regarding temperature cool down time correct?

    Thanks!

Transmission fluid rapidly breaks down over 190 degrees but he probably still tested it at the wrong temp. Transmission and their fluids tend to hold heat pretty well.

Nope, it would take much longer to cool down, most have waited hours or left
it overnight. Knowing the proper method and actually doing it is the issue many
of us dealt with at the dealers.

Had a discussion at my new dealer about trans fluid check and oil change at 5,000. Very disappointed at the lack of knowledge.

Same here, it's unreal at the lack of knowledge to service a vehicle THEY sell.

The service manager at my dealership said he had heard of this developing problem with the under filled transmissions from the factory. Said he hadn't seen it yet at his shop, but they're a super small dealer here in nowhere'sville Oklahoma. I asked to explain how to check the new auto transmissions for fluid levels and he said since they're "lifetime" transmissions they have difficult ways of checking the fluid levels. He described the method, which is leave the car off, let it cool all the way down, then start it up and plug into it's computer, and apparently it gives two different transmission fluid pressures, and you measure the difference between the two only when the fluid is between 120-140 degrees...and if the pressures are the same at each sensor then it's full. Don't know if that's accurate or not, as I'm no mechanic but it sounds semi-legit?

Limited wheels, extra rope hooks in bed.

Same scenario here 2 weeks ago...was at the dealer about 1 1/2-2 hours...Said fluid was 750 mL low...Just checked it here at home today and it seemed a little over filled....maybe 1/4-1/2 cup....I wondered if they checked it correctly.

Yep! You around these parts? Also, how did you get the premium JBL package AND TRD OR, they said to me that wasn't possible...(I want a 6 spd btw, I think that might be why)

Awesome man! Good to find some AF bros on here.

Yeah they JUST matched me with an allocation the distributor had, I've been waiting about two weeks. All I know is the color, don't know the interior or other options on it, but I will know more in a few days when they find out more. The dealer here is really nice to deal with and my salesman is super helpful, it's just that they're super small. They barely get any allocations. I already put a $500 deposit down so my request is in, it's just a matter of matching it to their allocations.
