I kept the trans thermo pinned on my 07 Tundra for 100k and now my 19 Tundra. No side effects, same mpg pinned or not, and definitely ran cooler. But it is a different trans from the tacos.

It's not good in winter, the trans wants heat and it warms everything up faster.

I would only pin on long trips with load. Even then I trust it to work.

I pin mine while towing. Makes a significant difference with keeping temps lower.

What do you use to pin? I think I’m pin mine for this weekends road trip. Going to be 100 degrees. Driving ten hours in a Tacoma.

Someone Talk to Me About Pinning the Transmission T-Stat | Tacoma World
Basically forces your transmission fluid to run through the factory trans cooler instead of waiting until it hits 195F for the thermostat to open. Good to do during hot weather months, folks recommend unpinning during winter. Think toyota stopped adding trans coolers after 2020
I read that MT's run cooler and you don't need to worry about it
