I can't find anything else that looks like this.... Plus I don't see the curved rod listed or in the diagram.

Yes that is the transmission breather. The “rod” (more so a hose) has a plastic breather on the end, which is attached to the throttle cable (assuming you have one). The breather is also held in by a hose clamp so I believe you can just replace that part if you can find it. image.jpg

Is that an auto A340F trans? I don’t have a breather there on mine (2002).

The breathers are different styles depending on your model. I ran into this when looking them up. This was part of my confusion until I found a parts site that used my VIN to check everything. Some sites ask for the VIN, but then state that every breather fits your truck.
I was going to post to you that I am unsure as to whether the end piece is replaceable. Toyota only sells it as a whole tube & breather. The one okolesniffer posted is one for a different model. The breather is sold separately.
Anyway, this is the breather it appears both you & I have….

Here is what I pulled u from a a Toyota parts site that was not very helpful as far as using the VIN cuz it keeps bumping you into entering make/model & according to it they all fit my make & model. I had this happen with a small piece of brake line I threw into an order I was placing & learned my lesson since I ended up forming my own. PITB to get those fittings right. I finally won though.... Anyway.... I digress as usual....

So what I did was found one that was helpful as far as VIN, however not so much as far as listing parts with a diagram. I entered the part number from the 1st site & this was the confirmed one & it looks the same as mine.

Then I tried the others. Example, the first breather, which is what I believe is in okolesniffer's pic. He also uses the separate hose listed in my 1st pic (9044511118)

This is why our breather is more expensive (all one piece & not a flex hose).
Could you do a swap? I dunno....

Wow very informative! I didn’t know the newer models used a rod instead of a hose as a breather. Glad you found the right part in the end.
