Thanks! I think it will settle in more after another 2 or 3K miles. I let my dad drive it and didn't say anything to him about the TSB and he noticed right away saying it drove more like a truck than a minivan and must be breaking in with more miles (he hasn't driven it in a while because they live a ways away) so that's an unbiased review. I hope it's still learning the city part of driving, but I'm thinking the redesign is to make it stay in a higher power band now and be more aggressive like a truck should, which most folks will like I think. Most people will like the post TSB probably, since it does run better.

I love it no matter what anyway. I drove my wife's worn out 08 Chevy Malibu before this, so I'm in heaven with my first new truck. I like my dad's 14 too, just as much as I like my 16. We talk about trading each other all the time, but we haven't yet. He likes mine more than his 14, but my mom won't let him get one :)

Thanks for the analysis on this. The P/R to D on my truck really threw me for a loop because I thought I was just being too critical...surely my brand new taco wouldn't have an issue like that...

I've got a new one. Brace yourselves. I picked up a new OR on the 23rd in Raleigh, NC. I traded in my 2010 sport for this truck and got a great deal on it. I've long followed Tacoma World so i did some digging prior to the purchase and was well aware of the issues many are having. In an attempt to nip this in the bud I asked my salesman to ensure that in addition to the initial inspection I wanted the trans fluid level checked, u joints checked and greased and that I wanted the TSB flash.
After two weeks I've noticed many of the issues but primarily the chugging around 20-30 mph as well as cc issues with very small hills. Around 60-65 it will be around 1500 rpm then jump to 3k uphill as well as it just seems to be doing some gear searching a lot. I called the service dept to get the documentation showing this work was done as requested (main was closed when I took delivery) I verified at the time of sale with the salesman that the work was done and he said it had all been done. Service department has no record of this being done and to top it off said they don't even have the program to perform the flash. Referenced TSB 0077-16. Needless to say I'm F***ing pissed. Any one have suggestions on what I should do. Right now its at the sales and service manager level. Corporate? Standing by for more.

I would just give that sales department "good" review on survey that you will receive from Toyota! that should teach them a lesson, I heard that does affect their bonuses and stuff.
they don't care what you ask and they'll promise you anything before you sign the papers.

I bought mine in the middle of May and the sales person and the sales manager both mentioned how important it is that I give them a perfect score on the survey, and if I couldn't to give them a call before I submitted the survey. Now 2 1/2 months later I still haven't received any survey !!

Call them tell them you got survey but not happy. Need them to do x, you, and z...then you'll give them high marks. :D

How come Toyota hasn't posted this TSB publicly?

Got my ECM re-flashed last week at the dealer and I can really tell a difference especially when going from P to D or R to D. Also noticed my miles up by about 1-1.5 mpg.

They do not post them... a TSB is to only be applied by the dealer when an owner complains of the exact issue that a TSB addresses....

I saw a YouTube video on this issue and decided to bring my brand new Tacoma in this morning and tell them about this. The Service guy that initially takes your info etc could not find anything on it, but after I dropped it off I called him and he said he spoke to the service manager and they were aware of it. I listed all of the issues i was having related to this. They called me and said they got it done, so once I pick it up this afternoon and drive a little I will get back on and let you guys know if It made a difference. I would say the most obvious issue was going from reverse to drive. It felt like it wanted to kill almost.

I'm from Canada and took mine in today for the recall since it seems to never want to shift into a higher gear. It rarely sees 6th gear and will downshift into third and stay there for way too long.

Got a call from the dealership today saying they couldn't find anything wrong and that the shift points were normal....

Not sure what to do now..

Really wishing I got the 6 speed manual

This is the one thin I really hate about this truck

Try a different dealer. Did you take them a printed out copy of the TSB?

I was thinking the same thing except where I live both Toyota dealers are owned by the same company and share the same database etc.

I was going to bring a copy of the tsb in but they said on the phone that the American tsb are different than the Canadian ones. I highly doubt it since its the same transmission and transmission module.

I may have to book a Saturday appointment and actually take the technician for a drive.

It's so frustrating it al,oat makes me want to trade it in for a manual.

The technicians can get the TSB but the service writer cannot.

They are technically supposed to drive the truck before performing the TSB but mine just went ahead and updated the transmission without driving it. I would call Toyota corporate and ask them if the TSB for Canada is different. It may just have a different number in Canada. I can attest though that you'll be happier once the flash has been done on your truck. It's still not perfect but I'm happy with the changes.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if a TSB that can change emissions is different for the USA vs Canada since the countries have different emissions standards.

    Thanks for the reply.

And yeah I think it's just the number that's different.

I'm going to pick the truck up now. I'm kind of wondering what type of dumb explanation the service writer is going to give me. I wish they would have just done the tsb.

If they won't listen to me I'll try to book with the other dealership and see if I can't drive with them.

May send Toyota Canada a call or email just explaining that I'm still having drivability issues.

And yes I would assume the emissions may be different but i do know the drivability issue is in the American and Canadian models. Dealer said there was a Canadian version of this tsb.

Ah well I guess I'll just keep hounding them

OK. I picked up my truck and assumed the transmission computer had been flashed.
According to my invoice, I don't see anything about it. However it says low transmission fluid. Fluid added. Operation is fine at this time.
From driving, the issues are either non existent or not noticeable. It feels MUCH better. Could it be it was just low on fluid from factory? At least for now so I'm going to leave it be and see how it goes. I have about 1,400 miles. Still very new.

I recommend checking your transmission fluid if you have these issues also.
