not to many, love it the way it is
before the tsb the tranny stays in first way to long and usually revs to high while in first and jumps into second to hard. the tranny response time accuracy after the tsb is awesome, Highly recommended

Just got the TSB done at the dealership in Poway today and i must say that driving out of the dealership it did feel much better accelerating and cruising down the road. The trani felt more confident in the gear it was in. It didn't hunt back and forth to coast and then accelerate again. The biggest difference is when you slow to turn a corner and then step back on the gas pedal. It feels like it should. After six months i had gotten used to how the tacomas shifted and it wasnt a big deal but when i read about this i figured whats the harm in getting it done and getting a free car wash too :) i love the service i can get from my dealers as long as its affordable or free

I went over to my local dealer a couple weeks ago to see if I could get it done. He said they cannot do it on Saturdays, which messes me up since I need my truck to commute to school. So I have to do it over Christmas break. I told him I wanted this TSB done, and he kept talking to me like I was some child that was waltzing in to get my new mats. He kept telling me a TSB is not a recall. I know that, idiot. He said that this would cost me something, and I was like this is not possible because it should be covered in the warranty (according to the TSB its the 86,000 mile warranty) and I told him it should be covered in the warranty. He then said he guesses it was. Considering this is an 09 only TSB, and its nearly impossible to put 86,000 miles on a car in a year, thats a little ridiculous.

The only thing I'm concerned about is that in the TSB it says they must drive it around to "re-create" the problem. For my luck it will act "normal" and they will deem it not worthy enough for the TSB. We'll see what happens in a couple weeks.

Mine is a 2006. I did notice this when i first got the truck .. seemed like the transmission wanted to be in 1st while stalking mall-shoppers walking to their cars in the parking lot. I actually liked it as it sounded like i was reving the engine :)

... but now I can't duplicate it. Maybe the computer has learned my driving habits. I dunno.

I just don't understand why Toyota would change the transmission programming on the 2009.

    *still confused*

Stapp Interstate was no help. Computer "problems" again. I will be taking it to Boulder Toyota next to see what they can do. The next step I guess would be to call Toyota directly.

I went to Boulder Toyota and was denied service. They claimed they couldn't recreate the issue, offered 2 times to take them for a drive and was turned down. Technician wanted to check fluids levels before going any further and that is when I left. I emailed the service manager and he said his guys were doing their job and I should bring it back in to be looked at again. I don't plan too. I work near Stevinson in Lakewood, that is my next step.

The bad part is that's where I bought the thing at. I should just go to the other dealer about 30 minutes away thats already done this TSB for another member of TW.

Just got my 09's transmission fixed. Woot! Feels nice and smooth when I make turns no more lag. Went in to Frank Smith Toyota in McAllen, talked to the first person I saw from service and asked them if the could check out my trucks transmission. Turns out he knew about it and told me it be an hours wait. He didnt even try to recreate the problem, just drove it in to service. Turns out it was the Asst. Manger.

So thanks to who ever posted the TSB. Thanks a lot.

Dropped truck off this morning, described symptoms (had a copy of tsb in my pocket) I thought I would wait and see what there response was so I didn't mention the tsb. Service manager called 2 hrs later and said they had done a tsb reflash and I was good to go.
Truck now shifts like it should, this is my first Toyota and I had become very frustrated with the transmission, had I not found out about the tsb I would probably have been looking to trade back to Ford but all is well now. Thanks to this forum the Taco is here to stay

Got my appointment for next Wednesday. This is the first time this particular dealership has heard about the TSB... but I have a decent realtionship with them, so I'm hoping everything will go smoothly. They do want to drive the truck to recreate the problem, but it sounds like it's for their own education since they haven't dealt with this yet.

Well I'm back with my experiences from today at the dealership as promised. . .

They called me yesterday and left a voicemail to confirm my 2:00pm appt. I didn't call back at the time, but called them this morning to confirm. The "service" line rang forever and finally the service manager himself picked it up.

I stated I was calling to confirm my appt. and let him know that I would be coming on my lunch break and asked what I should "expect". He asked what I was coming in for, said he didn't know anything about the issue, but was able to find the TSB that addressed the issue I described when he looked. I didn't give him the number, he found it on his own (even though I was prepared with it).

He said there would be no need to replicate the problem for the tech, to just bring it in as scheduled and they would perform the update.
He was nice, friendly, and helpful.

I arrived around 2:00, walked up to the counter and sure enough the insta-bitchy girl is there. . grrrrrrr

I very politely tell her I have an appt. to have an update performed to resolve an issue with the transmission. She says, "we'll, you'll need to duplicate the issue for a tech". I informed her I spoke with the SM, and he said they'd go ahead and apply the update. She tells me a week ago, a guy was in with an 09 complaining of the same issue and they weren't able to duplicate it so nothing was done. I told her I can make it do it all day long if she'd like. . . Additionally, I offered the TSB info (since the SM gave the info to me earlier), but she turned it down like week-old milk left in the sun.

15 mins later a tech takes my truck and dissapears out the back (presumably for a test drive). Another 10 mins later he comes back into the garage and parks it in a bay:

He sits down in the driver's seat with some sort of ruggedized notebook PC, and starts tapping away on the keyboard. . Another 5 mins go by, and he waves me into the garage. He shows me the very same TSB on the notebook's screen, and says, "I wasn't able to reproduce the problem, but I only went around the block with it. I dug around and found this TSB, does this seem to describe the problem you're having?".

I pulled my copy of the TSB out of my pocket, unfolded it, showed him, and told him it's exactly the issue I'm having, and I tried to pass that info along to the girl at the counter. He shook his head, apologized, looked frustrated he'd wasted 15 mins diagnosing it and said he would get it taken care of right away. He was GENUINELY REALLY NICE, and I had zero doubt at that point that at least it was really getting resolved now.

Another 5 mins passed, he came out, showed me the confirmation that the update was successful, and said as soon as the ppwk was ready I could go. Again. . really nice and respectful.

Insta-bitchy girl waves me over, and says, "well we couldn't reproduce the problem, but I guessed you guys worked it out"?

In my head I roundhouse kicked her face, but in reality I signed the ppwk, took my keys and left :)

It's like a new truck under 30mph or so now. . . No question about it. I'm not going to pretend the streets are paved with gold now when I drive on them and Angels appear when it shifts, but plain and simply it just drives and shifts like it always should have.

Kudos to Toyota's engineers for finally getting this right.

I got mine done here in Aurora at:

    Stevinson Toyota East
    444 South Havana Street
    Aurora, CO 80012
    (303) 340-2170

Called first to make an appointment and was in the next day. I told them what I wanted done per the TSB and was out in about 45 minutes. One of the better experiences I have had with a dealer...and I did not buy my truck from this one either :)
