I am so sick of the way my new truck shifts. It does everything that has been described here, plus an intermittent harsh 4-5 shift. My dealer won't do anything about it because mine doesn't fall under the vin cutoff on the tsb. This is my third 05+ Tacoma with the 5 speed auto, and it doesn't shift anything like my first two. The dealer basically said tuff luck nothing they wil do about it. Soooooo pissed.
    -End Rant.

I called my dealer yesterday and left a voicemail message. No one has called me back as of today. I am starting to get pissed off!! I have the TSB printed out. I looked at the VIN range seems mine may not be included:rolleyes: if that is the case then this truck has a problem other than the TSB issue. Only 3k miles on it so far.

    update:

I am to take my truck in tomorrow afternoon at 3:30 pm local time. They never called me back I called them, what a sorry dealership. After looking at the TSB appears my VIN is within range if I am reading this right. My only concern is my truck is not hard downshifting from 2nd to 1st as the TSB explains. Mine goes to 1st smoothly but at the speed it is going into 1st it should be in a higher gear plus it feels like it is slipping at times when shifting up through the gears and it has a lag when kicking down on it to pass. Really hard to explain but I don't think this transmission knows what it wants to do about 3/4's of the time. Really sad considering this is my 3rd Toyota truck and this is by far the worst transmission in any of them.

The vin # ranges listed on the TSB (393) doesn't look right. Mine (done) is a JU4GN but it starts with 5TE instead of 3TM as written on the TSB. I think they got it mixed up. Plus it says.

To enhance shifting performance and smoothness below 20 mph during the 2-1 downshift

    It should say "1-2 upshift"

Mine would drop from 2 to 1 too soon. Best way I can describe it anyway. I wouldn't say it shifted poorly going from 1 to 2.

yeah, I guess it does drop to 1st too soon and shifts to 2nd too slow.

I agree; the VIN range seems wrong-mine is the same as yours.

After bragging it doesn't do it (I have less than 300 miles, so maybe i just hadn't driven it enough), mine appears to have the same issue--like it can't find the right gear when going into a corner--it seems to rev up when hunting for the right gear.

Also, mine is a 2wd TRD..built in 10/09. Not sure if that's important info to have. I'll call or stop buy the dealer and report back here.

Had the TSB done and can notice the difference in the shifting, it even stopped the the lunging. The two things that I have complained about since owning the truck our now fixed. I have the radio and cd system on order but it's been 2 months with no response from the dealership. We have not had a problem with the audio system since the weather has been cold but when it was warm was when we had our problems. Just my observation.

I agree... This is what almost made me not get it done because I told him it was on the upshift... He tried to tell me there was no such thing, but I raised some stink and they let me have it :D
