Don't expect all service advisors to be familiar with every TSB for every model on the production line. That is expecting a little much. Remember, Toyota manufactures other models besides the Tacoma so don't be surprised. All you need to do is speak to a service advisor and voice your concerns politely that you have been having issues with a harsh ride and the tranny doesn't seem to be shifting smoothly and inform them that you had come across some TSBs that may be helpful for your issue.

The dealerships live off of service dollars but they need to make sure they are going to get paid for the work.

It seems that if your VIN does have seven digits at the end instead of six then yes, your vehicle is not included in the TSB. Definitely notify the dealer if you are having issues though.

I guess it is just six digits. I am losing it. Not loosing it, but losing it. With those numbers I would say your truck is included.

the trouble is it takes time to get approved then it has to go through formalities so they can have a recall which may take years. l can only say keep on fighting they'll finely do something.

Hey all, I am trying to get some traction for a - 2008 and prior - REFLASH TSB.
Sounds like the 09&10 got theirs and i'm glad for it. If there are 08 + prior Tacoma owners out there that want the fix, let's start talking to each other, maybe form a sub-thread (if that exists).
What i'v done & learned so far: First I called the Toyota Customer Experience line 1.800.331.4331 and filed a case. It was easy and fast to do. The person who helped me explained the process and told me I had to: Second, call the dealership and tell the Service Manager, who calls the Engineering guys at Toyota and if we bug them enough, they issue a fix TSB.
But I also figure we can call and write letters to Toyota in general to put pressure from the top down. I am going to write a letter and share it with everybody to piggyback on it. Anybody got any other ideas, let's hear em!

I have put on about 700 miles since I had the reflash. It almost feels like it changed the problem from a <20mph issue to a <10mph issue. Am I alone on this assessment?

I got mine done today and it doesn't "jerk" as hard after shifting from 2-->1, slowing down then from 1-->2, but it still feels like it can't find the right gear coming out of a slow turn.

I have a steep driveway and if I drive up slowly enough it will keep shift down roughly to 1st. It didn't do that before the tsb and I don't remember any other car does that on my driveway. Regardless, I never like the 1st gear of this truck before or after the tsb. It feels heavy (strangly, sometimes it feels light) taking off like a heavy duty truck. I test drove an 07 and it drove more like a car. I wonder if the tow package (mine) has a different gear ratio, anyone?

not to many, love it the way it is

I think the 09/10 tacos with the tow package are affected by the tranny issues more so than other 09/10 tacos without the package

I have a 2010 with serial number higher than that listed in tsb.
I get the same issue when slowing down, it downshifts when I don't think it should (and likewise, I have not driven any vehicle that does), causing the engine brake effect (feels heavy).

with all the other cars I drive, I can hypermile and coast at least 1/2 mile or more say when exiting a freeway coming from 65mph, but with the tacoma, as soon as I take my foot off the gas pedal (regardless if I am at 65mph or 20mph), I can feel the downshift and the truck will slow down too much and I cannot coast as far as I think I should.

Did yours have the tsb done? It should take care of the engine braking. What I meant was when taking of from a stop, most of the time, it feels heavy like 1st gear is too large or it doesn't shift to 2nd fast enough. It does this before and after the tsb done. I have to say may be the way I use the truck, lots of short distance and stop/go driving has something to do with it.

I had the TSB done on my 2010 and I am not that happy after driving it for about 500 miles. Yes the going into 1st gear at or above 20 mph is solved but the thing still shifts like crap throughout the range. It still has that slippage feeling when shifting into 3rd and is sometimes slippery feeling into 2nd if your not pushing it. I have also noticed it hanging in 4th for a long time after making a left or right turn at say maybe 25~30 mph it seems to not go on into 5th after making that turn in say 3rd then to 4th only to hang there. This is crap can't Toyota do better? I hate to say it but my '02 Prerunner was a better truck than this 2nd generation. I am going to give it some more time but if this transmision continues to act crazy I am coming at Toyota with all barrels loaded and I will be shooting for the kill!!

Well I got shot down by the dealership for this tsb. I dropped off my 2010 and they said everything is working as it should. Then I asked did it not qualify for the reflash and he said no that was for the 2009s. So I dropped the tsb in front of him and said um no right here it says it's been updated for 2010 and he just kinda ignored me. I got pissed and walked out. To me it doesn't feel right. Maybe I'll give it alittle while and see if the tranny needs alittle more time learning me. But I really think that I should just go staight to toyota next time. Lol it's Gunnar be fun trying to get the spring tsb done (they need to replicate the sag first).

Just try another dealership, but just walk in there and say that you want the TSB right off the bat. I did that about 3 days after it came out, so they hadn't even heard of it. But it was in thier system and did it. No reason to beat around the bush.

Most of dealers hate it when customers go to Toyota first. But in your case, it's exactly what Toyota Customer Service is for, to deal with dealers like yours. You have the perfect reason to call.

Yeah I know. There is another dealership close by I could try I just figured I just spent like 30k on a truck with them that that service dept should be the ones catering to me. I mean in the past like 10 yrs I've bought like 4 cars from them but I think service there sucks. I'm going to recheck my vin. Now if the last numbers are higher then what the tsb states then am I disqualified right off the bat? Since I tow a camper and haul camping supplies I really wan the spring tsb but that's Gunna be a good fight I think.
