    Update to my truck.
It looks like I need another transmission.
I had it replaced 5 years ago and the one I got from a salvage yard had around 60k miles on it when I got it. I've put close to 115k miles on it on that time. Had the fluid changed every 18 months or so. I do tow a bass boat (18 foot aluminum) and its less than 3000 pounds. I tow in 4 like I was told to do a while back on here. I have a much larger transmission cooler and have a scanguage 2 to monitor Temps. I would rarely reach the 200 degree range on big hills from when I would have to be at a stop sign at the bottom. Most of the time, it was around 180 degrees.
The last 6 months it has really started shuddering alot, even after 2 packs of shudder fix.
My truck has 297k miles on it.
Many things have been replaced in the last 5 years, along with the last 2 in the front end.
I got a quote from the dealership, and it was for around $4700.. Nope!
I did look online for rebuilt ones, and the ones I found that looked good all have a long lead time before having any available. (5 weeks for one place and 123 days on another).
I'm told there is a great rebuild shop within 20 minutes of me, and I'm going to give them a call later today.
A new truck isn't an option.

My son had a 2010 Nissan Sentra. The transmission died at 110,000 miles. Nissan knew they had a defective transmission and had extended the warranty to 120,000 on SOME vehicles. They had corrected the issue with 2012 and newer cars. For some reason my son's car didn't qualify for the extended warranty even though it had the same transmission. Nissan charged me $100 to tell me the transmission was dead and wanted another $5000 to install a new one.

I took it to an independent shop who said they would install any transmission I could find from a scrap yard for $700, or they would put a new one in it for $2500. We opted for a new one. They picked up the NEW transmission from the same Nissan dealership that was going to charge me $5000 and installed it. We got the same work done for 1/2 price and the transmission they installed was the newer, updated version.

My son got another 100,000 miles out of it and the car was still running great when someone rear ended him at a traffic light and totaled the car. The Nissan transmission couldn't be rebuilt, replaced only. Your Tacoma transmission should be able to be rebuilt for under $3000 and be like new.

BTW, you're wasting your money having the fluid replaced. I'm at 242,000 miles on my Tacoma with the factory fluid still in there. I tow 3000 lbs regularly and as much as 4500 from time to time. The shop that did the work on my sons Nissan told me to leave it alone. I'll be bringing it in for a rebuild somewhere around 400,000 miles either way and just save the money I'd spend on changing the fluid and apply it to the rebuild later.

Too bad you’re not closer! I’m tired of tripping over the auto I pulled out for my manual swap, I’d just give it to you.
