This thread can be deleted, but I want people to see this.

You wont believe what I learned today!
    Some back story:
Several weeks ago I went to the stealer that I bought my truck from with concern about transmission shifting and hood.
They "checked" everything and it was within normal, of course.

Week ago I decided to visit my nearest stealer and I showed them hood. They were trying to skip me, but we went to see the other new truck and it was fine. Service dude went online and find out that there is a kit that Toyota came up with for a hood repair. He ordered, kit came in and I dropped it off my truck by dealer yesterday. I also mentioned to them transmission and he said that they will check trans fluid level as well.

Here it goes.... I just received a call from a dealer and you will never guess what I was told....

    My... Transmission... Was... Overfilled!

Has anybody heard anything like that??? How it can be overfilled if you supposed to fill it until it drips?

I'll post paper work later when I pick up my truck.

I'd be curious as to how they checked it, exactly.

I doubt it that they will explain on work order. But we'll see...

    Edit: I'll ask them

They probably check it after it was hot and the fluid expanded a good amount. When they opened the overflow a bunch probably poured out. Now that it ran out when it's coolers your gonna be under filled

Did you fill it or have anyone else fill it prior to taking it in this time?

If they checked it while it was off, you're going to have lost a good amount of fluid. Our transmissions are "overfilled" when off.

It's gotta be running to check levels, because the transmission has to suck up fluid into all the passages!

Tranny oil has to be within a certain temp range to properly check it. if it's too hot, you will not get a proper reading and if it's too cool it won't either. Likely as stated above, they checked it with the temp too low and when expanded, it overflowed. Oh well, it's under warranty.

Same thing happened to me. I think they didnt have it at the right temp (too high) and the fluid expanded more that it would have for a normal Op temp check. Now I am beginning to wonder if it happened to another owner.

Once tranny oil is too hot, it takes FOREVER to cool back down. If your tech or dealer got impatient they probably said eff it and checked it hot.

No body fill it prior to this. First time, when other dealer checked they said that level was fine. This time, which is different dealer found it overfilled.
