I have this happen too. Especially running about 1800 rpm 45-50 mph and let off the gas. Going to the dealer Saturday to get a recall fixed and possible Tranny fluid replaced, let you know how that goes.

    Automatic?

It's normal for these trucks. It's referred to as the LURCH. Tons of threads about it already. Google tacoma automatic lurch

It's the transmission downshifting after you come to a stop. The faster you come to a stop, the harder it feels VS going slower and slowing down gradually.

Complained about mine at first service. Dealer said that is just the way they. Found a TSB and they did reprogram when they did the rear springs. Much better since.

Since I serviced my transmission the lurch is gone. Dropped the pan and changed the filter, gasket, o-ring and 7 quarts of fluid (IIRC).

Been happening on my 2009 since the day I drove it off the lot. I went back and drove a brand-new one and it did the same thing.

Service techs say that it is just the way the transmission acts sometimes when it is finding a gear after coasting or braking.
