Hey guys. I am new to the forum. Forgive me if I am putting this in the wrong spot. I have a 04 prerunner v6 dbl cab it currently has 123k on it I bought it with 69k. I have never done a trans flush or dif fluid change . I am hearing not to do the flush because it could mess up my trans. I plan on having this done at toyota. Should I have it done ? I am having 0 issues with the trans I just want it to last for a long time . It is a automatic . Also should I do the dif? It is the 2wd model. Thanks for the help guys !

Do a 2x drain and refill for the tranny. Drain it once, refill with fresh fluid, drive for a few miles, going through all the gears a few times and reverse then do another drain and refill it. I'd switch out the rear diff too.

Drain is on tranny pan, u will need a funnel with small enough end to fit the tranny dipstick tube. Warm the tranny and let sit for for few minutes so all the fluid drains back to pan. Then drain the pan, you will get around 5 quarts. So buy 5 for or 10 depending on how many times your gonna do it. Pour in 3 quarts and start the truck, shift through all gears pausing in each one. Then check fluid level w/engine running. Add as needed. Mine took all 5. Check your dip stick for type of fluid. Should be type 4. I did mine 120,000 and helped it a ton. Shifts alot better and smoother.

Yea its really one of the easiest things to do maintenance wise we can do. I would be sure and grease all the zerks on the drive shaft also. There are 6 total. Kinda hard to find but there is a link on here you can search and find that shows you where they are. I just use lucas NLGI 2 grease that you can buy at homedepot. I have replaced all major fluids so if you need any questions answered and cant find them just pm me.here is a link that can help out. http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/maintenance/tacoma_4runner_30k/maintenancep4.htm

Sorry to bring this thread back up, but im going to flush my tranny next weekend and have never done this before. Where am I going to pour the new fluid into?

Also, Im going to put in Amsoil ATF is this going to be a problem if there is still residual Toyota tranny oil in the transmission?
