On my 2004 tacoma prerunner v6 every now and then I will get the shudder from Trans between 45 and 55 miles per hour. Check trans fluid hot and its just below the first mark for hot reading. Does anybody think this could be the cause for shudder or do I just have a bad torque converter

This is not every time at that speed just how often??

Does it happen the same spot on the Road??

How have you figured out it is the transmission??

I get shudder every now and then when I'm on the highway and I'm cruising along at 55 or 60 and if I let off the gas and drop down to 45 or 50 then get back on the gas it seems like it's between gears and shudders. Checked the trans fluid hot with engine running and it's just below the first mark on the stick. From what I read sounds like torque converter. I wouldn't think the fluid being a little low would cause the shudder but I could be wrong. I'm going to pick up trans fluid add to get to top of mark and see if that does anything.

Does this happen when the truck is both hot and cold? What does the trans fluid look like, or smell like? Has the check engine lite come on? Just wondering if there are any OBD codes so far. I had some shifting issues years back. I would occasionally get some codes related to torque converter lockup. My trans would get very hot after prolonged use and especially coming off of the highway onto surface streets. Eventually, I changed the shift solenoids, rebuilt the throttle body with the sonnax zip kit and replaced the torque converter.

    Check the trans mount.

Also, are you throwing any codes? Might sound stupid but I had this same issue, changed spark plugs and wires and it went away (misfiring bad). I was throwing a code but the CEL was burnt out so I didn’t know.

Fluid looks pretty good and doesn't smell burnt. I always heard don't change the fluid that it will do more harm than good. I don't have a problem getting it changed but I don't want to make the problem worse. No codes

Howdy, any resolution to this issue? Sounds like the issue I am chasing down at the moment on my 04 v6. Thanks

If it's the same issue as the OP, have you replaced your carrier bearing yet? Might want to check it before zeroing in on the transmission.

Turns out had a broken spark plug. Runs like a top now.
