awesome thats what I was picturing. I didn't want a plastc Yak rack for the bikes so the 1UP USA roof rack is the way I will be going.

My old truck set up which is the same a new truck. Yak Boa mounts on factory crossbars & a Yak trailer hitch rack. The hitch rack gets the most use and just stays in there all the time because I'm mtn.biking at least three times a week. ...but if it's off, I just lay the bike down in the bed. Honey badger don't care.

I went with a Rocky Mount setup. Took the rack off of my 4Runner, cut & mounted it to hold the front tire. Works for me :D

The guys who have mounted fork locks to a 2x4 is ingenious. Clever, even if you didnt think of it first.

Using the same fork mount and love it. Great mod! I've got a couple trays laying around from an old Yakima roof rack. What did you use to attach it to the bed rail?

Great idea! Adding a shell sometime this summer and will be using your build as a template!

I found a metal bar at Home Depot that was the same thickness and width of the mounts that came with the clutch system. I drilled a hole, threaded it with a tap, and then cut it off the bar. Then I drilled a hole in the tray and mounted it using bolts I bought to match the newly threaded piece of metal. Used a washer & bolt and it has never come loose. The tray length is just below the top of the bed rail down to the floor of the bed. I still need to mount the second tray, so I'll try to remember to take some pics of how I do it.

Nice Sean. I'm on version 2.0 of the same basic setup. With my 07 I removed the caps and did a bedliner cover up. For my 10 I went over the caps and very pleased and seems stout as well.

First of all, are these racks still available? And second of all, I just got a new Bronson carbon 650b and it is the stuff. Man it's awesome. The pivot Mach 6 is nice too

Question for those of you who've used a fork mount on your bed rails: do you have any trouble with your handlebars peeking over the roof of the cab, such as excessive bugs on your shifters (for road bikes) or getting air in your hydraulic brake lines (mtg -- damn Elixirs)?

Also, is there any effect on your gas mileage?

Thanks for a great thread, by the way. I just bought my first Tacoma and I'm looking forward to making it into a bike hauler.

Question for those of you who've used fork mounts on your bed rails:

Do you have any trouble with your handlebars peeking up into the wind, such as too many bugs on the shifters (road bike), or air in the hydraulic brake lines (mtb -- damn Elixirs)? And does this affect your gas mileage significantly? I have an 08 regular cab PreRunner, if that's useful info.

This is a great and informative thread, by the way. I just bought my pickup and I'm looking forward to making it a bike hauler.

No trouble with bugs, no air in my Elixir's no noticeable effect on mpg's. I usually cart my Demo around on a Driveshaft SD and although most of my trips are within a few miles, I have had it on the highway running 70-75 and don't worry a bit.

Thanks Boone! I'll be hauling my bikes at highway speed for six hours at a time pretty regularly. I wouldn't worry at all if it was just to the trailhead, but thought for longer sustained periods it was worth a quick query.

There have been zero issues with the setup I run. I say you are good to go with some quality mounts.

You could fit them in your bed if you didn't have that goofy cap and BOB stuff.:tinfoilhat:
Shit nevermind, forgot a real bike won't fit in the SB, my bad mang.

Fuck BO stay at the house and pew pew pew. Yeah yeah, I know. I may be slightly jealous of that at times.
