Anyone use a trifold and keep it closed while transporting a kayak or two? I like to go camping and keep my gear covered

trying to not have to get a roof rack, wasn’t sure if there was something I can do with like having the kayaks on top of the tonneau and something in my hitch to secure them.

    any help or brainstorming appreciated

There are some threads about this. You can get a bed rack that will work with your tonneau. Just depends on the tonneau you have. Then you can mount over the bed. I used to just leave mine folded up and put the kayaks in the bed. I’m in the market for a new tonneau and am leaning towards the lomax which does t relocate the rails like the backflip

A 10 ft kayak would most likely fit with the tailgate down and tonneau closed with nothing else needed. A longer boat would need a hitch mounted bed extender.

Two boats won’t fit under the tonneau unless they are super narrow.

Sorry maybe I wasn’t clear - I want to have kayaks with me but the tonneau closed with all my other gear on an extended trip camping without having a roof rack.

    I have a bakflip mx4.

I think I’ll just look into the hitch boat attachment with foam pads under the kayak on top of the cover

someone makes a bed rack for it but I’m having a brain fart in who it is. Kbvoodo? Edit: yep kbvoodo. They have a few height options.

I know they make those kayak roof foam pads for people who don't have roof racks to put their kayaks on the roof. Don't know if the taco roof is long enough for it to work, but it might be an option if you don't want the hitch extender?

Yakima makes them for both canoes and kayaks.

    Not too expensive either.

Gave my son a set of each kind.

Should be fine on a Tacoma roof.

YAKIMA #8004054 on eBay for $40+. Includes tie down straps.

@Merling I load my kayak with my Bakflip MX4 tonneau cover closed. I have a double cab long bed and my kayak is an old town autopilot 120. Works perfectly! The crossbars I have with my rooftop tent are BillieBars.

    Sit or sot?
You could possible do this. Also use webbing loops pass thru the cover for attachment. What yaks do you have?

Oh I just got Tucktecs, they're comparable to any other $300 kayak just they fold up and have a drop skeg. Trash seat but I just got a canoe seat to mitigate.. tbd.
