If you are looking for side trips stop in Austin. Lots of food/bars/music.

Check the concert schedule for Houston. Maybe you can catch a good show at house of blues or the woodlands pavilion. As for restaurants, if you want some good Mexican food go to papasitos.

    Additionally:

    Tex-Mex food:
    Ninfas on Navigation (original)
    El Tiempo next door
    Guadalajara (google nearest location)
Gloria’s (Midtown, Salsa dancing on certain days)
Casa De Sol (real Mexican and Tex-Mex)

    Bar B Q:
People are very particular about there BarBQ. Places are hit or miss.

    Papa’s barbq
    Goode company

    Brewery:
8th Wonder Brewery (no food, but taco trucks and places in walking distance)
    Karbach Brewery (food)
    St. Arnold’s

They are always having events, festivals, Astros games have to google to see what’s going on.

Washington Ave. has night life, bars and shit
    Midtown

I work Law Enforcement down here, lock your shit up and nothing in view, bags, cell phones, loose change. Downtown is ok Midtown is full of homeless crackheads. Stay away from 3rd Ward, 5th ward, acres homes, SE Houston, these are just some Tuff areas.

Houston has pockets of good areas surrounded by bad areas. You can be in a real nice area and across a Main Street is a dump. So I advise you not to go exploring.

You forgot about Lopez Mexican restaurant at 59 and wilcrest. I agree with the theft. Out of sight out of mind. My father was HPD for like 30 years

Don’t leave an charger cable out. Make it look as factory as possible. Crackheads will steal the pennies out of the cup holder if they see them.

    NASA is a must see.

Yelp is pretty on point, I use it wherever I go and find good stuff.

NASA cool if you’re into history, and that stuff.

Stopping in San Antonio is always a nice weekend away, sometimes Austin is to weird. Hotel Valencia is where I usually stay. River walk has all kinds of stuff.

If you are going to the Alamo you should drive to the other missions. Mission San Jose is beautiful and not as crowded. Good pictures. All the missions are about a mile or two apart.

Be prepared for traffic. Between 0600-0900. And 1600 to 1930. Freaking construction everywhere
