In some countries 'tray' means a 'flat bed'. Is this what you're asking about? No Tacoma Double Cabs had flat beds from the factory.

... And there were no Double Cabs in 1999 or 2000.

Are you perhaps referring to Toyota Hilux models (totally different species; non-USA; available in the Caribbean area)?

I'm referring to the big piece behind the cab that ppl would put stuff in. Not the flat bed.

I'm not sure when the double cab was introduced in the US, however it been here (caribbean) as far back as I can remember.

The hilux and tacoma are the same vehicle up until 2005 where Toyota separated the both of them. We're trying to figure out if accessories for the Tacoma will work on a similar hilux. They have interchangeable body parts as well. We have a few Tacs here and they are easily mistaken for the hilux.

BTW, I currently have the 2007 hilux.... lovely machine!!!

The 1995.5 - 2004 Tacomas are an entirely separate 'species' (US designed and built, and not based on the Hilux). When they were introduced the earlier 'Pickup' / 'Hilux' series branched into two separate series.

However, both series were of basically the same size, so the question often arises as to what (if anything) can be interchanged between them. It's always been something of a mystery, because nobody usually has access to both models.

The Hilux 'branch' stayed with the pre-1995.5 layout for a few years, and many of those models' parts can be swapped onto 1989 - 1995 USDM 'Toyota Pickups' (aka 'PreTacos').

Over at CustomTacos we get frequent inquiries from Australians asking about Hilux / Tacoma interchangeability. The problem is that they don't have Tacomas and we don't have Hiluxes to help with any comparison.

Sounds like you're in a position to see and compare both. If you have any info / hints / tips on parts interchangeability PLEASE consider informing us either here or at CustomTacos. It would help a lot ....

    Having said that ...

The 2001 - 2004 Double Cab bed dimensions are as follows:

    - Inside length = 61.5"
    - Sidewall height = 15.9"
    - Bed interior width (between sidewalls) = 57.9"
    - Bed interior width (between wheel wells) = 40.9"
