I picked up a TRD diff with 4.10s out of an FJ. I know I will have to change out the entire axle. My question is do the axles out of the 1st gen 5lugs have the same spline count as the TRD diff? I am assuming yes as long at its an 8” 5lug rear axle. I am aware of the housing mods and stud differences for the TRD locker as well.

Got a lot of stuff lol
I'm not a first gen but have a 2nd gen 6 lug elocker. I had to use the 6 lug axle and shafts because the 5 lug one was too short. The splines were the same but the amount of engagement was not. Now I have rear 6 lug rims and front 5 lug rims lol. I did also need a driveshaft spacer to have proper transmission engagement.

    Also fuck adapters

All new under the floor, factory frame swap. Bucket seat swap. Bilstein 4600 shocks and X Runner rear swaybar. 4:10 DIfferential. 225/60/17 on Sienna 5 spoke alloy wheels. After market black headlights. OE replica fog lights. OE Intermittent wipers plug and play. Leather steering wheel (OE eBay) that came with a cruise stalk, I bought the $38 OE wire to plug into the clock spring, plug and play.
Single/Access cab 4wd and PreRunners, when they have the 2TR 4cl and 5 speed all have 4:10 gearing, though no locker. Most all TRD Sport have an LSD though with 3.72 gearing, so pick your poison.
I swapped in the pig (as shown in your picture) from a single cab 4X4 2TR 5 speed, into my single cab 2WD 2TR 4cl automatic. Much easier. Plug and play, everything fits, just a swap of assembly line options.
I have to sets of wheels/tires (Summer/Winter) that are 1-3 inches taller than stock so the change is not that much though it is spunkier overall.

I am asking for the 5lug axles. I have not torn into mine yet but believe the 5 lug 8” axles are only a 27 spline shaft. I know they work on the 30 spline shafts.

I guess I meant for the gearing, not the locker. Easier to deal with a diff that just bolts right in.

No doubt on that my friend! But that is what separates the men from the boys. ;)
