not much. The tube may be a bit less restrictive and they likely give a better filter to start. The lower box of the intake is the same. You can al so buy parts and build it yourself. You could likely get the id, tube and couplers for $250 or better if they are on sale. I built my 2nd gen version from parts (sans air filter) for about $240. Picked up the AFE Pro Dry with a discount and credits I had at Auto zone

Thanks for that. There's a nice used one locally for $250, a good price compared to new, but since there's not a lot of upside (besides bling) I think I'll stick with what I've got for now. Thanks again!

On the 3rd gen, if you have the TRD air box, and don’t want to get the oiled filter, what’s the specs/size for a paper OEM one to fit into the TRD air box housing?

Paper Toyota genuine air filter only. They are so well made. Designed for our engines. Every year or 12k miles toss it and get a new one.(cheap enough, or check it and see if it’s dirty) up to you it’s your truck. Just what I do

not sure what’s TRD about not having a snorkel.

TRD air filter is said to be a rebranded aFe with less filtration.

It does literally nothing. I had the TRD intake system on my old 2020 taco. It sounded cool but when I sold it and got my 2023 I just left the standard intake system and filter. I rather not have to clean the filter and deal with oil being sucked into the engine

pretty sure factory includes sucking dirt from the wheel well that is fixed by putting a cowl intake that is not factory offered part, if one doesn’t want a snorkel. Among other solution(s).

Significant gains are not made from air filters and is not the sound to be heard.
It is not worth spending more for a potentially worse filter than using regular for $10-20.

Not much dirt in behind the fender liners, kinda sealed off, whole idea of the oem setup not to mention cool air from the wheel area

Most after market filters will do fine, as long as its kept clean. You can get TRD filter from Toyota probably too.

The whole TRD bs is huge rip off for people who are dumb and know nothing about trucks. Most people who do off road with this trucks are joke, calling driving on sand or dirt off road lol. Its ridiculous. Most people use these to go in places where you can literally walk or use a bicycle. USA has literally roads everywhere, its not like you live in Eurasia, Africa, where you really are against elements and there is no help if you get stuck.

Any 4x4 truck can go there, in Siberia they don't need TRD PREMIUM MIND BLOWING bs 50k trucks to drive , neither in Africa nor in Asia in those dangerous terrain with constant rain and landfall. People literally use old dirt cheap Pajero's to drive there, its all about driver and not the bs you need this and that

You dont need 50K TRD truck unless you live in mountains far from towns and cities. People who does, are the ones these trucks are meant for.

It’s just a trim/shock/spring package. Kinda like the Z71 off-road package. Guess you dislike Chevy as well.

Its real reason is to make SR5 owners feel inferior and lacking

Whoa, I started this thread over a year ago and had no idea it was still going. I never received notifications. Weird. I always thought was weird when OPs disappeared. It's because they don't know their thread is still going.
