Everyone should give some thanks to Sicyota04. He reached out to me and suggested this project. Since it was his idea, I sent the prototype to him for a test fit.

The follow pics were supplied by Sicyota04. Note he is using a red top Optima with the Optima supplied spacer. This brings the top of the battery equal with a stock battery.

We may be hugging the radiator puke bottle a little close. I am considering tapering this area a little.





I made the holes for the bolt and the j-bolt snug to the bolts. I may open these holes up a little to give you a little wiggle room side to side.


I will listen to the crowd for any suggestions before finalizing the design.

While it fits now, Sicyota04 & Coupe think:

1. Taper the portion at the front going to the radiator support to give a little more clearance on the radiator recovery bottle side.

2. A little larger bolt holes to give a little side to side wiggle room.


For everyone running a shorter than stock height battery, you will need a spacer under the battery to raise it up to a stock height or near a stock height.

I will see what comments come in before going further.

Needs a cup holder, also will it fit 285/75/R16 with a 2" lift? Thanks.

 

I have a Red Top 35 with no spacer. Would you be able/willing to make a hold down for a 7.69 in battery? Thanks.

 

I would say not easily.

Look at the profile of this picture.


If you drop the crossbar down approx. 2" it would hit the radiator recovery bottle.

It is probably easier to make a rubber pad that sits under the battery to lift it up to the correct height.

 

I noticed in an earlier pic of the prototype, there is some adjustability built in to accomodate varying widths of batteries.

1. will that adjustability be in the production units?
2. If #1 is true, what are the supported width dimensions? Max and min in inches.

 

Ha. Radiator puke bottle, I haven't heard that one before.

 

The adjustability is on the bottom side and will be in production units. 6" min. 7" max.

I have no further comments, would like it off the overflow puke tube but it's not a deal breaker. Looks great man.

 

I plan to taper the portion that extents to the radiator support. This will get it off the overflow tube.

 

What's the price tag on this?

 

$65 for the raw aluminum and $85 for the powdercoat.
These prices will only be good for the initial group buy.
After the initial group buy the $75/$95 prices will apply.

 

These are models for the next iteration. The portion that attaches to the radiator core support has been narrowed slightly to give a little clearance to the radiator puke bottle. The bolt holes have been enlarged slightly.









Since the portion has been narrowed towards the radiator, it sortof looks like it's giving you the "finger"!

This is what I am planning to machine, pending any comments from the group.
