You don't really need a diff drop for a 2-3" lift. You are going to need more positive caster for 285's than the stock UCA's allow, plus the ride will be so much better. definitely worth the money. Are you just planning? You should contact headstrong in the vendor list for help and GOOGLE a lot from various sources to make a better decision. You're pocket book and/or how much you want to spend will be you limitation.

Are you doing the work yourself?
Skip the diff drop, I've seen those cause more problems than good and the CV angles will still be fine without it.
If this is for the 2006, now would be a good time to replace ALL the bushings and rod ends. It will probably save you a lot of problems associated with worn parts and adding lift.

 

Toyota is replacing my frame. So Toyota will be installing the lift parts and the supercharger. I am also getting the clutch replaced because they are only charging me 3 hours of labor. The truck has 56,000 miles. I am the orginal owner and it has been treated well. This whole thing is beyond my knowledge base. Your advice is very helpful. I bought the suspension as a kit. Not sure if I was "sold" or not.

 

Ah. So is this the bilstein kit from toyota parts?
Since this is being done by the dealer, I'll let this rest where it is. That kinda changes everything in what they will or won't do.

Toyota service will do pretty much anything I ask. I just want the correct setup up initially. Do you think I should buy new upper control arms? what if I go with 275 70 17s instead? I really won't be taking this aggressively offroad. Mostly street driving and appearance.

 

Hmm that kit has 2887's OME coils, those are for a front winch and bumper setup or they will lift the truck 2-2.25 inches. 2885's are recommended for stock or no extra weight load.

Also why are they using the 5100 rear shock with a 2" AAL? Shouldn't that run 5125's? The part number they give is

Wrong 887 coils r same as 885 just taller. The 886 is the heavy spring for bumper and winch combo and they ride like dick with no weight up front.

 

wow, I believe you are correct mineakey! the back shocks that Headstrong specified will not accommodate a lift > 1 inch. My AAL will be at least 1.5". I will need to call Headstrong on Monday.

 

the should have altered the package to accommodate the larger lift.

had to go to wheelers to get info lol. yeah i see what you mean. both are 590lbs and 886 is 660. so 887 is just more lift with no extra weight. Its been awhile since i speced those for my setup.

yeah its weird because looking at the pictures it says 5125 but part numbers don't match. I would just double check the part numbers, would suck to have to pay for their mistake.

 

Hold phone man, put the computer down and think about the suspension instead of just thinking indicated lift #'s. AAL's do not magically make it so your packs produce more droop outside of the thickness increase of the pack and the additional extension as a result of this (very minimal), in which case a single leaf is only about 1/4" and the 3 leaf is about 3/4" thick. With this in mind you are well within the specified range with the 5100s as indicated by the shock manufacturer.

Keep in mind man we are not talking about lift blocks here, with blocks they are as thick as the lift indicated which drops the rear more thus making it so longer shocks are needed at extension. Keep in mind AAL's produce lift by simply reinforcing the factory packs so that they don't flatten out at easy and maintain some arch. Blocks lift by dropping the axle down the specified lift having no impact to the arch of the factory leafs.

5125 are not a good fit based on my personal experience, sure you can gain more droop extending the factory packs beyond what the manufacturer wanted (if you want to do this), but the generic valving makes for a crappy ride as compression is stiff on these.

 

The mistake is people read things on forums vs. actually trying to understand the suspension or products. My advise, get under your truck and get your learn on. You would be surprised what BS is posted on here and what guidance is offered by someone who has never even installed anything in their entire life. I see the blind leading the blind in here all the time.

As OP said he wants appearance. No one said blocks. Just search people's rigs with 5100's and 887's, they get about 3" of front lift. All i am doing is making sure he was aware that they list the same shock on the rear that i have with 5100's at lowest setting and stock spring. With the replacement springs in rear truck it is about 1' higher and everyone knows how the TSB aal raised their truck. AAL is for handling more weight but in his case it looks to be to level the rear.

Dont be so quick to judge, just calling out info so he is aware based on the misinformation on that site.

Good luck OP, i hope it turns out just as you want! On a side note you may consider having them replace the rack bushings while they are at it. If yours is anything like mine, those rubber bushings suck balls and you feel a lot more in the rack as it ages. Energy suspension makes them Part Number: 8.10106

 

sweet! glad it was right. report back how those 887's springs work out. I didnt replace mine when i did the shocks and think that was an oversight.
