This is exactly right! I like the sound and look of the exhaust. But not for the price that toyota is selling it for.

    $400 is a good price considering they're $700 new. I got mine for $250.

Ahh well if I get down that way before you make your decision, we can link up. Overall, you can’t go wrong with the exhaust. It gives most feedback at mid to high RPMs (punching it to get out of a bad spot) or entering the freeway. Down low, the sound is very subtle but noticeable over stock. It’s a TRD part so you get that nice stamp on the exhaust tip too. I love it and am glad I got it. Maybe OvTune will make it sound better, but I’m a a few days from learning this..

Got min for 300 used. Not worth 700. It’s too quiet but sounds nice. I didn’t notice any gains. Looks good though.

The TRD cat-back exhaust it's not a mindless sound machine, it's a free flow exhaust which eliminates engine back pressure which in turn enhances engine performance, as a result it produces some extra exhaust growl which is pleasing to some people.

Which is why I think, if the OP is looking at any exhaust, is to find it cheaper than what the MSRP is on any exhaust. The noticeable benefit from stock exhaust to any exhaust on the taco is pretty much non existant, minus the sound. Since most people are buying exhausts for the taco, myself included, for the added sound, its foolish buying an exhaust anywhere near msrp.

Maybe I'm cheap, actually no, I am cheap. Probably the reason for my rationale. Haha.
