I have been waiting a long time for the gen3 TRD cat back exhaust and have been checking the trdusa website every week or 2 to see if they had them for sale. Yesterday, I was pleasently surprised to see them for sale and then shocked to see them priced at $849. This is $354 more than the gen2 version. Many months ago there was a thread on this site where someone modified a gen2 cat back for a gen3. I may have to go this route unless someone can convince me the gen3 is that much better, maybe 3 inch pipe instead of 2.5 inch. Even that would not be worth that much money. Toyota has gotten gready. Many years ago I remember someone saying that in business pigs get fat and hogs get slaughtered. Anyone know exactly how much torque and HP are added? Thanks

I noticed that as well and quickly decided that I doubt it would be worth it. Figured I'd just go with Magnaflow at this point.

Cat backs are not the way to add HP and torque...save your money if that's what you want.

There are plenty of grest aftermarket catbacks available for the 3rd gen. Magnaflow, Flowmaster dual, borla all sound great and are much cheaper than 800+

Agreed, $849 is a lot of coin and I was surprised too.
I pm'ed warpedequation a few months ago, hoping to get his feedback on his installing a 2nd gen cat back. Based on his reply, I decided to not go this route based on "drone." Here's his response to my question re: performance and fuel economy:

"I didn't notice a difference in overal economy, and i think it's because of two reasons. 1, I've only had the truck since august, and we just got through with winter so i haven't had the truck really long enough to get a feel for the economy swings with weather and to be honest I dont drive the truck much. When I do it's usually for towing my travel trailer, or off roading. The Exhaust was awesome to have on there, and I wouldn't say it hurt the economy of the truck either.
My only complaint was on the highway, pulling up hills the truck would sometimes downshift to fourth, and in fourth gear right around 70-75mph it can produce a pretty good amount of drone. I know with the upcoming release of the 2017' TRD Pro Truck they have released an updated TRD Exhaust, and i'm hoping they re-engineered the exhaust to help with the drone due to the higher exhaust energy output of the new engine.
    Hope this helps!"

'Know'? Of course not. No one owns or has dynoed one, so how could they know?

I'd guess it's no different than any other catback. Maybe 1%, more noise and a bit of bling.

However, I'm sure it will be the must have item of the day for many folks. Because TRD.

Is it a true catback or just another y-back?

Thanks for all of your responses. A while back I found a gen2 TRD cat back for $375 on the internet and figured that for a little bit more I could get a gen3. Boy, was I wrong. TRD lost at least one customer because of their greed.

Just get a better-sounding muffler and weld it in. The engine doesn't breathe enough to use larger dia piping.

Not street legal in some jurisdictions (exhaust opening must not recede more than 6 in from body).

for those willing to pay, it seems they are becoming available.
Part number doesn't show up on the dealer parts catalog yet, though.

trick is finding the right one before spending too much. I did it with the Flowmaster
Super 44 and it sounded like a bag of dicks. :D So much so that I swapped it right back
    out the next day.
