    Hi everybody,

Need help here please..I bought a pair of toyota/bilstein from a tacoma TRD off road 2022 on FB market. I'd like to install it on my tacoma 2012 base 4x4 V6. After a lot a research and calls with toyota, they can't tell me what part number to use without the VIN... They have around 40 parts number for the TRD off road. The part number written on the shocks is 48150-04190. Even bilstein can't tell me what would fit on it. I'd like to keep it stock, no lift (I heard I would get an inch from the trd off road but thats ok). Does anybody have ever done that installation before? Can you guys help me with a part number and confirm that would fit?

    Many thanks guys!!

I am in the same boat. I believe the part numbers are 48131-04B10 (passenger) and 48131-04A90 (driver). Unfortunately, these are extremely expensive to source from what I have found. I am hoping I can find a recommendation for a better priced after market option, otherwise, I am going to have to sell mine.

Have you tried finding coils for a 2nd gen? The 3rd gens are heavier and use heavier coils in the front. I think it's 580lb vs 700lb coils. You would end up with a significant lift if you use 3rd gen coils.

I'm sure that shock is the exact same diameter as the 2nd gen TRD bilsteins. Just look for coils off a 2nd gen TRD OR or TRD Sport. I would sell you my brand new 2013 TRD Sport coils if you are in Canada lol.

Factory coils also fit on the 5100 shocks. So you could even maybe see what people run for coils on those, and they should fit those factory shocks. Something like OME 885's, you'd be best to talk to a shop like Headstrong and see what they recommend though. I could be wrong, but I would imagine any 2" coils would fit. It's just a matter of getting the right spring rate and coil height for the ride height you want.

Fellow Canuck! I just moved back to BC from Colorado.

It looks like I may have found some 3rd gen coils. I do want the 1" of lift up front that comes with the switch. It will also let me get some 5100s down the road which you can run on their shortest setting. And after posting to the 3rd gen suspension on 2nd gen thread, it sounds like there really isn't much ride quality benefit to using the 2nd gen springs with the 3rd gen shocks. May actually make the ride quality worse. I've heard that the stock 700lb 3rd gen coils tend to hold up better to similar spec OME ones that tend to settle after a year or so. I also need to replace my leaf springs next, so I can lift the rear a bit to fix the rake.

    Nice! Welcome back!

No, that guy was wrong. Coils determine ride quality. Shocks just stop the bouncing. There's a lot more to it, but that's the gist of it. You want the coils that your generation of truck came with, the valving in the shock won't make a huge difference. Handling is more than just not rolling on corners. Too stiff and the wheels just bounce over the top of the bumps and you lose traction and control. And 700lb coils will be stiff, trust me.

Yeah I know what he was alluding to. Yes, the shocks will work best with the coils they were paired with. But those coils will be too stiff on your truck which is a far worse combo. The valving won't make as much of a difference as the coils will. And the extra length is basically irrelevant. The rest of the suspension geometry is identical.

Any idea on how using SR5/Limited coils on TRD OR bilstein shocks would work?

If they are from the same gen, it shouldn't be a problem. There isn't a huge difference in suspension between the models of the same gen.
