Later today will put it on the highway on my way to my condo at the beach. Will be good to open it up a bit and see what it's got. I will let you know later this evening.

I must say it is nice on the highway, seems to slightly reduce gear hunting, on-ramp and passing acceleration is improved and is less restrained than stock. Need a couple more runs on the highway in repeated routes to judge any impact to MPG.

it will probably get worse MPGs since your introducing more air into the engine and will need more gas to mix with it to combust

You might be right, although I've seen conflicting reports. I am fairly light on the pedal usually, and run the same routes daily, so I should have a good measure of it within a few days.

That's what I did, installed a K & N filter. I have a scan gauge 2 and it shows the intake air is at most only about 3 degrees warmer than the outside air temp.

The MPG is no worse, and maybe slightly better than stock. The main thing I notice is on-ramp accelleration is better, and a little less gear hunting. Accelleration, in general is better, less labored, doesn't hold back. Low RPM is smoother as well in neighborhood crawling. Most of my driving is highway in metro area of Jacksonville FL, which can be 60 - 85 mph down to nothing and back up to 60 - 85 in no time flat. Less labored than before.

I was going to do that, but I thought the TRD system looks cleaner and purpose built... Like it's made for it. If you know what I mean.

It wouldn't be much to add an air scoop to the TRD. Just a bit of creativity. If I did that I would buy the separate volant scoop, or similar, and make it work.

I agree I like the look of the TRD better, I like both but I wouldn’t jerry rig the air scoop on the TRD...still thinking about which to get. Let me know what u think of the TRD one.

    Yeah.
First off, let me say that I have one installed, too.

But thinking that you will be mixing more air with fuel is incorrect. The system will adjust based on the sensors. Might be a little less restriction since the intake horn is slightly bigger and the pipe is straighter, so throttle response *might* be improved, but the fuel/air mixture is still controlled by the computer. I just like to tinker and think it looks cool, wasn't really expecting a performance gain and can't say I noticed any.

So you will only get so much by this mod, but if we look to what OVT has said about the exhaust system being very restrictive (stock), my next mod will be the TRD exhaust. I will keep my truck mostly stock or with OEM upgrades as much as possible. If I upgrade the suspension will likely go with the TRD pro setup or close as possible.

    Yeah.
My truck came with the TRD exhaust, and it would have been cool to hear the intake with the stock exhaust first -- I didn't even notice much sound difference over the exhaust, but I am sure there is a difference.

There are some YouTube videos showing the difference. I should have done one but didn't.

Oh sorry you said exhaust. I was referring to intake

I went with the AFE CAI with scoop. So far so good but their seal was a real PITA to put on. I didn't notice any loss of MPG. I can't really tell if there was any HP gain since I'm on OVTune, but there is definitely a noise increase. The <2K RPM range is definitely throaty, but the 2k RPM is a little annoying. At 2.5-3k it's pretty quiet. At 4k it's loud. Like really loud. But that's very brief as I pass these fools in Orlando.
