Welcome to the forum, lots of guys here think that they are snake oil but I installed a afe setup and love it. Mine is the dry filter type so no worries about the MAF getting gunked up.8C587F25-20F6-4E5A-828D-9848650912B8.jpg

Enjoy the noise as that is what you will get. No HP, MPG, or Performance Gains. You want HP, or Performance Gains get a Supercharger when they come out. Your truck has a Cold Air Intake on it from the Factory.

    No mods whatsoever!
Also have to add the TRD exhaust to get the full effect. :burnrubber:

    Curious
Notice anything from it besides better noises? Been eyeing it myself, especially with that intake scoop

Wow that AFE looks like it was installed at the factory. Not Brodozer-ish at all.

I believe it runs better than stock but many critics say it’s a placebo effect. It definitely sounds better and I think most of the critics have not done a side by side comparison. Bottom line is that I won’t go back to stock anytime soon.

I fully believe an intake system will make more power in your vehicle, if not free up some power. It's not just about cold air, its also restriction and flow. The easier the air gets to the engine the more you can get into the combustion chamber, combined with an exhaust you can maximize the output.

Some may argue, the ecu will take care of the change. You have to remember, there is no way to control the flow of air other than the throttle and that is just driver input. The more air goes in, the richer the mixture will have to be, thus adding more power. I'm not talking turbocharger status but there will be some gains.

Is there any actual difference between the TRD CAI and the stock intake other than the air filter?

Yeah....it's purdier!! LOL! I installed the TRD CAI!....more noticeable audible note, of course I already have the TRD catback, so that probably aids the effect. Not sure if any measurable gains for HP or torque, but it looks, sounds good, and a lifetime K&N filter to boot.

What’s the intake sound compared to? A whistling or gurgling sound on throttle? Or does it blend in with the engine? I had one on my Camaro that whistled almost like a turbo.

Definitely not a whistle in my experience with the TRD CAI. But more of a rushing/sucking air sound on throttle tip in and then a kind of dull roar of moving air on heavier throttle application.

Sounds pretty cool IMHO and even if I get absolutely zero performance increase, it makes the truck more fun to drive and that's all that matters to me...

yes, actually. the intake tube bringing fresh air from outside the fender wall is different.

and although there's really nothing significant for performance in this CAI, the extra sound is mighty nice for the MT driver who needs a little extra noise to guide shifting.

Anyone have a good high quality recording of this different sound? I was considering a KN just for this but most clips on youtube sound like crap.

i have never experienced any online vid that represents exhaust or intake sound accurately, or even "more or less"
