    Thats your little secret.

I did the testing for myself, and decided to share. Takenit as u will, spend ur money and believe ur pulling colder air than stock if u wish. U might at idle or 30mph with urd, but beyond that ur not.

Aftermarket intakes may make more hp by straightening out the air flow, and eliminating any chambers or baffles used to quiet down the engine noise, but its not due to colder air on a second gen tacoma.

Dyno proven hp gains i believe.... but NOT from colder air than stock on a 2nd gen tacoma. It doesnt happen at approx 35mph, it just doesnt.
Test ur stocker at 30-40mph, and unless u have been idling for an hour creating massive heatsoak, it will be pulling ambient air temps.

They are more than likely making SMALL gains due to the air flow being smoother, and the removal of the chambers/baffles in the stock setup used to quiet down the engine bay, since most buyers want a quiet cabin.

Your factory in take is a cold air intake, draws air from the fender away from the heat of the motor or rad.

I added a K&N drop in, noticed increase in low end torque while towing, the tranny didn't search for gears as much.

Wow, walked into a shit-storm of an exchange in this thread. :crapstorm:

For what it's worth, I'm supercharging my rig in a week and am probably going with the AFE Stage 2. Initially I was going to go with the URD TCAI, but I've heard it's a hassle to mount in front of the inner-cooler, plus needs a sock and shroud to keep moisture out of the MAF when it rains.

And that hydrophobic sock will effect off the line performance.... im not sure how much in terms of numbers, as i havent been on a dyno, but u can feel the difderence very easily. It kinda stumbles under load from a stop while n/a..... i didnt bother running a sock while f/i since i didnt have a need for the sock that time of the year.

Good to know, thanks! After careful thought I think I'm just gonna go with the AFE anyhow.

When super charged (or turbo) Cai becomes pointless anyways. Might as well just stick a cone filter on the end of a short tube like a short ram system.

I agree with you. Point was the aftermarket systems pull from the fender well

    Some of them.

Even then...... best urd can do is ambient.
The cold air part is just laughable to me, along with the claims on a box about the hp. Same truck on a cold morning can outpull itself compared to it being heat soaked on a hot day.
But u know, some ppl buy that crap up like koolaide..... or is it koolaid?

Either how, the stickers collected in my toolbox are worth 100hp.

I think when the term cold air is used, they are referring to ambient Temps. The point of cold is that it is "claimed" to be colder than inside the engine bay.

Yes it will not be much help after moving at certain speeds since that cools the engine bay down, but at idle and around there I can see it helping a little.

Absolutely no chance do they touch the claimed box numbers.

I would love to set up a method kit on my SC rig. Definite heat soak problems down here in South florida

What data are you expecting, anyone with a scangauge or ultragauge can see ambient temperature from stock intake while at speed.

It doesn't get colder than ambient.

A thinker.... thank you for seeing how simple this was.
Nobody needs to buy all the intakes like i did.... my god, all they need is a stock intake and what, 100 bucks to monitor iat?

Some ppl just wanna nag cuz the koolaide tastes so good i guess.

3 pages deep and no one can produce fact
You can not gain horsepower by swapping intakes on a stock motor.
People have tried for 25 yrs,K&N got sued for it and lost big time.
Ask them, they now advertise 20% instead of 20HP do they not?
Why do people try so fckn hard to remain ignorant?
