    A slightly better throttle response.

Its Marketing cool-aide regarding increased Power on aftermarket CAI.

The maker likely has some dynamometer data from a particular engine which shows an increase above some type of intake plenum.

This is so they can make a claim of increased power. Doesn't mean you will see an increase on your engine.

There are a plethora of slights of hands to make a Marketing claim and avoid false advertising litigation. This is common practice in products. Example: a 10 hp air compressor can be set up to deliver air flow like a 11.5 hp unit. Just need to use a 3 phase TEFC motor with a 1.15 SF motor. This means the motor can run continuously at 115% above rating without damage. The compressor can be set up to run at a speed needing 11.5 HP from a 10 hp motor. Now, the performance claim is marketed as a 10 hp machine. Therefore, this unit can deliver 15% air than a competitive 10 hp unit. This is just one slight of hand.

Your stock intake plenum has been designed and set up to provide good performance in all the engine speed ranges. It is possible to "tune" an intake to be optimized at a specific engine speed, like a NASCAR for instance. As a daily driver for commuting a NASCAR set up would be a serious dog in stop-n-go traffic.

<edit> Some race engines will run at 10-12,000 rpm. Indy and F1 as examples. Those intake plenums are tuned for best efficiency and power in that speed range. <endedit>

Like a said earlier K&N 63 series short intake made a big difference on my ranger. I felt the difference instantly and no it wasnt my butt dyno.

It does make a difference on some vehicles, not so much on the tacoma though.
