New to this forum and thinking about getting an exhaust like everyone else when you first purchase your truck! With that being said I have a dumb question... Would a trd cat back exhaust add any value when being sold to a dealer or being traded later down the road due to it being an option from toyota? Any help would be appreciated!

I wouldn't buy an exhaust with the intention of it increasing the value down the road. Any gain in value from the exhaust will be extremely minimal. You could, however, run the exhaust and, when you trade in the truck, go back to stock and sell the TRD exhaust and get some of your money back. That can be true with a lot of modifications. Most will not add much value on a trade-in but can be sold off to recoup some cost.

Vehicles are built to appeal to a number of ppl. Once you star customizing in any way, you start limiting the market to a lower number of ppl who want a vehicle like the one you made. hence it becomes harder to sell so the value decreases.

Thanks for answering a dumb question just wasn't sure if dealerships prefer "trd" accessories over the "aftermarket" cherry bomb hack job lol

Some minor "additions" may add a slight value to your truck at trade-in time, but as the other posters indicated, there are LOTS of mods that will definitely decrease the value--a louder exhaust, regardless of manufacturer, will be considered a negative.

Don't forget, a dealer's primary job is to squeeze every penny out of you that they can, which means that anything they say they don't like about your truck will result in a reduction in value. Just the way they work. If you wind up doing several mods, you might try selling your truck private party, or keeping all the stock/original parts and converting it back to stock prior to trade-in.

A dealer will probably not add value for the TRD, but would probably reduce value from a cherry bomb, assuming it's loud and droney like I'd expect.
