I wonder what your objective is, Miller1236? Do you want increased performance, better fuel economy, better sound, keep your warranty? If you're like me, you want it all. Maybe somebody will come along and advise us both.

Hey, MadDaddy. With my stock TRD exhaust system, if I install headers and a MF muffler, shouldn't I get a little better fuel economy, better sound, and a little better performance ie. torque and hp?

:notsure: But I bet there are plenty of dudes who will chime in. Some will say yes, some will say no. I think upgrading headers will def give you something. Could be noticeable, could be negligible (like CAI). I can't say anything will give you better sound. A different sound, yes. Better? That's personal preference.
That said, new headers are on my Future Mods List but not for another year or so.

Thanks for your input. I agree with your statement about the sound from your F150. I have a Z71 with headers, glass packs and pipes straight out the back. I call her my little "bitch hog".

U have a stock exhaust unless u explicitly paid extra on top of the off-road package.

TRD off-road package itself does nothing to the exhaust.

Thanks, Justus. I'm not ready to pull the trigger on this yet, but I am trying to formulate a plan and consider a few options. Still, it's beginning to look like the only big difference I can expect is a better sound. If that's the case, I just don't know if it would sound better enough to justify the expense. Sometimes, a quiet exhaust is a big advantage. Can I get an :amen:.

Toyota specs the TRD exhaust as 5-8hp gain. That said it is likely all up top where it is not usable power.

I won't buy a TRD exhaust as every single review I have read on it has people complain about drone in the cab. Read any reviews on the TRD Pro, which has it stock. I've also seen people buy them, install them, and then go back to stock and list it on CL for the same reason.

I'd like a slightly more aggressive tone, but I don't want it to be obnoxious or attract unwanted attention.

You could do a YouTube search on this subject. There are several examples there. Good luck with your search, Miller1236.

Good morning Miller1236. Contrary to "every single review I have read on it has people complain about drone in the cab", I have the TRD exhaust on my DCLB SR5 and like the sound, don't have an objectionable drone at highway speed. I also have the TRD CAI. What performance increase there is I agree is at the higher end. Over 3000RPM the two add-ons seem to come into play, and really come on over 4000RPM. In normal. casual driving - not so much. I enjoy them and haven't regretted the purchase.

Not saying you have to go this route. But, just to give you a sound bite of one option out there:

There's an entire thread on here in the exhaust section with videos posted of different exhaust setups. Unfortunately, most people put the camera directly under or next to the exhaust exit for max Brap. The result is an unrealistic clipping sound. The best positioning should be a good 15+ feet away from the truck.

I'm one of those that had the TRD and yanked it within a week. There is definitely a drone , not at highway speeds but at 1 narrow RPM range and it seemed to be when I had slight acceleration at any incline. The youtube videos do not capture the drone.

I just installed a TRD exhaust on my AC Tuesday. I do have to admit under acceleration I do notice a slight drone around 2.5k RPM, but don't notice any under cruise speed/RPM. I'm still waiting to see if it needs more time to break in as I only have about 50 miles on it. I usually shift between 2-2.5k RPM.

I just recently installed a Gibson stainless kit on my truck, really like it. Seems like the mid range has picked up a bit, want expecting anything huge just wanted it to sound like a truck.

My 2015 TRD Sport came with the TRD exhaust. I like it. It sounds better than the stock. Not too loud. If I ever buy another Tacoma I want it ti come with the TRD exhaust. I think it is better than putting on a exhaust.
