Hello I own a 04 Tacoma TRD ext cab and recently while driving the fuel tank skid plate started dragging on the street and saw it was rusted out and left hanging off the truck. I knock it off with my foot and now wonder if it is really worth replacing? and if so where can I find a cheap replacement?

how long have you had your truck?
i just had mine sandblasted and powdercoat before it got gradually worse

you might need to wait for a totaled west/south truck to pop up, there might be a waiting list @Tour991
new OEM if available are over 200bux
after-market offroad durable ones are about the same $$$ too i think

there is a 2oo1 totaled taco here but I have not gotten to see underneath yet (they set it over the biggest mud puddle)

Just plastidip it, it will be good as new. Might want to take some sand paper to it and get rid of the surface rust though.

LOL I thought this was a 'for sale' thread at first

Should be able to find one of those gas tanks skids pretty easily, in a junkyard or on here even.

But with the gas tank skid looking that rusted out, I'd be afraid to see what your frame looks like....

Both are Stock - built correct from the start.
That's just frightening! What's the rest of the chassis look like?

He's got an 04 it looks like so he could still fall under the frame replacement warranty program if he's quick about it.

If he's in one of the rust belt states the truck needs to have been inspected and/or coated by Toyota prior to 10/31/10 to be covered under the 15 year warranty extension.

yup, that's why I made sure to put "could" still fall under the warranty ;) He may have already had it replaced for all we know, but seeing that kind of rusted out skid plate doesn't inspire much faith in what the rest of the truck looks like
