I like my V6 gasser, i wouldn't trade it for a diesel unless it was a 6cylinder diesel, then i would trade in a heartbeat.

I just noticed that the Hilux looks like it has one of those rear windows that rolls down all the way. Thats one of the few complaints i have about my truck is that the rear window is manual. I love that about the Tundra Crewmax

I see that Toyota has come out with a V8 diesel for their Landcruisers, I wonder what that would be like in the Taco.

Those numbers were recalculated from the Australian Toyota website's specifications PDF. I don't pay attention to the 2.5L just the 3.0L. In which case, 163 BHP and 252 ft/lbs that you have is not far off from 171 HP 253 ft/lbs.

Remember, other contries don't always have a "standard" for basing their measurements off of...

I will put my money on the Toyota Website.

Yes, but a variable geometry turbo on a diesel can maintain peak torque throughout a greater percentage of the RPM range. A gas engine will spike and decline.

I wish I had my old dyno report of my 98' TDI Jetta versus my friends 01' VR6 Jetta. You could see that the TDI held it's torque values better than his V6 did. I couldn't beat him on the upper range, but I could pull him off the line by a good 12' lead! - and I was still getting 38 MPG!!!

Wow, I didnt expect to get such a good response on this thread. Maybe Toyota should start reading these forums to get an idea on what people really want. Personally, I would trade the power windows, door locks, auto locking hubs, push botton this/that, and the most useless of all, 6 cup holders (why do I need 6 when I can only drink one coffee at a time while driving???) for 1 plain jane no frills Diesel engine powered Toyota 4x4 with manual locking hubs. If you look closely at the Hi lux built today, it still has the transfer case shifter next to the tranny shifter.

I was actually wondering the same thing. I'd like to know how much a truck set up like mine with a diesel would run me.

BTW sunrunner, if you think you have it bad with 6 cupholders think about how i feel with 13!!! do you have any idea how much beer i have to drink while im driving to keep them all full?

This would mostly depend on where the engine was designed and built. Usually it is a $1,000 to $1,500 premium for a large 4 cylinder turbo diesel. I expect that if Toyota is going to bring something like that here, they will try to keep the cost as low as possible.

On the older TDI Volkswagens, the engine was a $1,200 premium, but if you got a manual transmission, it canceled out the cost - That's what I did. ;)

In Aus the 3.0lt D4D 5 speed manual dual cab SR5 Hilux sells approximately for $50,000 Aussie dollars with only 4 cup holders...

    This raises several questions here.

What does it cost to fill up those 4 cup holders with Dunkin Donuts coffee then?
Using that supplied conversion guide, Starbucks coffee would be cost prohibitive, assuming they have Starbucks.

A seasoned coffee drinker doesnt need a cup holder, as he/she can shift, drive and whatever without spilling a drop. I the case of a female driver, she can put on her makeup, do her hair, talk on the cell, and not spill a drop.

Several things the Aussies have that I wish we could still get, are lock out hubs and separate shifter for the 4wd unit instead of that electronic shift knob on the dash.

We need to clarify: She won't spill a drop of her OWN coffee but will cause everyone she encounters to spill THEIRS.

BTW, a diesel Hilux/Tacoma wouldn't cost $48K here in the US. Add a couple thousand to the existing Tacoma price and there you go. I'd buy the 3.0L D4D in a heartbeat.
