TRD/ Magnuson 4.0 Supercharger Tips, Tricks, and Mods

Used the tap that came with. I cut a few helicoils shorter so I didn’t have to tap and drill down so far.

 

So I’m at 600-625 ft above sea level where I’m at.....

Stock s/c 455 injectors. Once I put on my 2.7 should I be ok too?

With the fpr mod yes, but without, youd likely be close to max duty cycle on your injectors. @Roostfactor ran a 2.7 @ about 1k feet i believe and his IDC% was in the 90s (without fpr mod)

 

Highly doubtful. They have specific build formulae for N/A and F/I.

 

Was the Z in 5VZ-FE referencing the boost ability? Thought I read that once. Would love to boost my old '97...

 

VZ is the engine family, not related to “boostability”.

Toyota traditionally used a T designation after the dash for factory turbo engines, and a Z for supercharged. Such as 4A-GZE or 2JZ-GTE

OK, so the VZ designation for the engine family states it is inherently built for boost/ Supercharger; VZ? Just to clarify...

 

The VZ engine family designation does not infer the engine is built for boost. While they have features that are favorable for boost, each variant of the engine is individually spec'd for it's intended use. Some variants are more suitable for forced induction than others, but the series itself isn't necessarily a "boosted" engine family.

Don't confuse the Prefix with the Suffix.

Example: 5VZ-FE. 5VZ 5th gen VZ motor. (prefix) FE scissor drive cams, EFI (suffix)


1GR-FE is the same. But first gen iteration of the motor.

2GR-FKS 2nd gen - Scissor cams F, Atkinson K, Direct injection S.

A Z in the suffix would indicate supercharged. A T would indicate turbo.

 

Typical Toyota. They'll slip in last and all the fanboys will claim Toyota does it better because they waited lol.

In the luxury sedan world they’re still trailing behind the Germans.

I knew it wouldn’t be long till they put that engine into their trucks. But now there’s nothing that stands out with their trucks or SUVs. There’s no big or small anymore.

 

Ok. So I am sure I will ridiculed for asking a question that has been answered over and over.... in order to delete the SAI system I need the HPTuners Pro tune for the ecu? This in addition to TRD tune from the dealer? Or can the dealer trip be prevented?
