I bottomed out the tap as well after I used a puller without the sacrificial bolt in. I had to retap it to fix the threads. It is probably more annoying than any harm though.
    Yeah man, 2-504, 96-01. StrikeMFHold!

Awesome, throw a plastic Christmas tree cover on the end and it is good.

I've heard a bit a both, I honestly think it was mostly on me. It was working until I lost my damn mind mid-install. The threads look good still too, but I may have someone look at it if I do this again. Now to put a coat of semi-gloss on it...

I think it's an M8 x 1.25 thread. Try matching a bolt to what's left of the threads on the stud and see if the bolt threads in relatively easily.

Lol. Sorry, didn't mean to hijack the thread with rabbit holes. The numbers are units and timeframe spent in the 82nd Airborne.

No i dont think heating the pulley up is overplayed, go look around on xru, theres posts about stuck pullies going back for years there.

Oh I'm not doubting that people have had problems, it's just in my case I was still able to crank away with a luke warm pulley. However, I did try to fuck it up as much as possible, so there's that.

I was lucky and had some giant corn fed mfer cranking down on that thing and he was puffin alright. I was post surgery so i managed holding the pulley with a boa wrench

Umm, I just used my hand. I didn't have another set of hands (prolly should have) nor a oil filter wrench. I just locked down the end and cranked away while choking the shit out of the pulley... just like I didn't rehearse it. No wonder I messed it up. Oh well, it all worked out; I changed out my idler pulleys too and now it's quiet where it should be so I can hear that spool. I know folks on here have some crazy setups, but holy dingdang it comes on so much faster now! I'm pretty happy about it.

anyone else start using the stock legnth rpm belt, 2.3 or 2.5, and that noose wrap pulley? im curious how thats working. would like to go that route if its not a high maintenence deal.

The @BillDaCat8 belt wrap is working flawless for me so far (under 200 miles). I have been doing some datalogs at full throttle and nothings broken yet so no initial issues. This is IMHO the superb way to go for 2.3 and stock RPM belt!!! I haven't tried it with the 2.5 but my tensioner is right in the middle range with 2.3 and stock length RPM belt. Its exactly how I want my belt/tensioner config.

As @BillDaCat8 and I have discussed, I do want to make a bracket to fortify the front of the idler. This is due to the leverage that is potentially placed on this bolt because of its long length. Having support at the bolt head would increase strength tremendously.
I dont have one currently and its holding up fine. It may be more than enough to hold forever but I would feel more secure with a bracket securing the front end. (possibly in work :D)

one thing is for sure, there is no question of belt slip, PERIOD with this setup!!!

@BillDaCat8 came up with something special here for sure!

And I’d rather have a little slip vs too tight.
