Does anyone know of a Nor-Cal or So-Cal shop that rebuilds TRD super chargers?
I'm approaching 75k and don't feel like do it myself.

Man that back drop. I’ve lived so far south for so many years I haven’t been able to see the color change of fall in a long time. Made me homesick

So quick question for everyone. I am the only one I know (IRL) that has a S/C installed. From day one of the install it has had a whine at idle that always reminded me of a slipping belt, but I really never thought much of it since everything was brand new. Someone asked me about it a couple weeks ago, that sound at idle.

If someone could just confirm, yes, this is what they all sound like, or no - there is another issue, I'd greatly appreciate it. 7 second video here with sound here (finished putting an upsized transmission cooler in this afternoon).

@aboftofbeam Mine doesn't have that oscillating "wah-wah-wah" sound. Sounds different from my blower while at idle.

You may want to check for vacuum leaks. How does your boost look and what size pulley are you running? It might had been the mic, because they all inherently make a noise at idle due to the rotors but it still sounds sort of loud.

Thanks. Was my initial thought too but like I said, it has sounded that way since day one so I never gave it much thought.

Yep, it is definitely in the way-wah-wah category, not a steady whine/tone at idle. Funny thing, at start up it is pretty quiet, then after 30 sec to a minute or so it starts with that sound.

I have been over the whole thing looking for leaks. Changed a couple hoses, put clamps on everything. Had the original 3.0 for about 18 months and changed to a 2.8 about 6 months ago.

Edit: 2ndpart of your question - Boost - Steady- doesn't bounce or jump, nice easy climb out of vacuum into boost, peaks out around 6# right now.

@12TRDTacoma, not sure if this is 1st page worthy or not, but it might help people out with the random lookup. I was off looking for a part number for something a while ago and came up with this full part listing, with part numbers, over on X-Runner Underground.

    http://www.xr-underground.com/threads/trd-s-c-parts-list.33429/

Copied and pasted into a word doc in case the thread disappears...

I'm guessing here, but look at pulleys/bearings. Particularly related to the sc belt route

Maybe finally time to upgrade from a long screwdriver to a mechanics stethoscope. Hard as hell to tell where it is coming from just listening with the hood up.

Okay so there is nothing extreme going on with the engine, that is a good thing. I currently have some bearings I have to re- replace because they ended up being garbage right out of the box. I'll do them when I replace my alternator because that thing definitely needs replacing before I can really enjoy my loud music again.

I will look into the link when I get the chance. Preliminarily I'm going to say thank you for the contribution!

That's actually the same suggestion I would make to him. Especially if boost is stable and other running/ drivability conditions do not exist. If that all checks out okay then you may have a defective internal rotor bearing.

I 2nd (3rd?) that too. I would look at the rollers/tensioners/pulleys that the belts track on and see if one (or more) of them is making the chirp/wa-wa-wa sound.

interesting. I recognized that wah wah sound as soon as I played the video. My truck has always done it, how ever his has a much faster rhythm than mine does.

You know now that I think about it @aboftofbeam , I've heard that wah wah wah sound before myself, most often times I've found it to be originating from the alternator. If everything fares out well you may want to take a look at your alternator voltage regulator. If you unplug it and the noise goes away, there you go.
