So this isn't a first right? I'm installing the heater core hoses and mine came with Gates 19mm (3/4). My heater core and connections are 16mm (5/8). Maggy provided a 3/4 connector too. Anyone using HPS heater hoses? I spliced my old 16mm hoses together for now but thinking I might go HPS and splice those

i would aim for keeping the 3/4 so the volume its supposed to flow is as designed. i dont think 5/8 is bad unless in an extremely hot climate.

My stock heater lines are 5/8. You mean keep 5/8? Or is yours 3/4? Picked up Dorman #56438 metal 5/8 connector like the stock piece (or at least my FJ does).

I came here to ask first as I figured you guys came across this issue. Starting with the oversized hoses on the coolant bottles. I just don't want to re-do these heater hoses later because I was lazy. I ordered HPS silicone hoses but I'm going to stick to rubber. Reading up about how much silicone "sweats" makes it seem it's less up to the job.

silicone is great for color themes. standard black is far more cost effective. make the hoses function properly. get the bling in billet custom parts.:D

I finished splicing my old hoses (it was pretty close on the angles), but I don't have any idea how old these are. Luckily Maggy is sending the replacement extension hose that were meant for the kit. I'll order new rubber asap.

right on! i made friends with some folks at oreillys. they just let me wander in back searching for hoses with the bends i wanted. good times. and returnable as they were for mockups.

I used 1/2" inlets and outlets for my old coolant tank for the longest of time. It was really no big deal @jamesepoop

Sorry for the delay gents, but finally got some time to do some logging and compare the UCon and HPTuners in my truck.

My setup for the comparison is the following except for with the HP tuned ECU, I am running the FPR mod and no 7th.
    - 2013 4wd 6spd
    - URD lightweight flywheel & stage 3 clutch
    - Magnuson S/C w/ 2.5” pulley w/ rip mod
    - URD TCAI
    - Roush Tensioner
    - TRD 455cc injectors
    - URD 7th injector
    - Snow performance stage 3 boost cooler spraying 625ml/min above 7psi
    - URD Spec-u headers
    - JFR Y-pipe
    - TRD Catback (catless)
    - Mildly ported TB & S/C inlet
    - 4.10 gears

Initial impressions that the HPTuned ECU is much smoother as far as power delivery goes. It is also smoother when quickly tipping-in the throttle or letting off quickly to decelerate. UCon always was a little rough at times when doing these things so that was the first thing i noticed that was a pleasant change.

The throttle mapping seems to make things feel a little peppier, and it feels like the truck gets up to speed quicker. Top end power felt to be largely unchanged, but the low and mid-range power seems to come on a little quicker. The max MAF I had with the UCon was 346.7g/s, but I was unable to get an accurate Max MAF on the HPtuned ECU since it was pegged at 323 g/s above about 5200 rpms with the URD intake piping.

In lieu of a direct max MAF comparison, I have taken the MAF values from both sets of logs at the RPMs below while going WOT in 3rd & 4th gears. The highest RPM readings there are represent where the MAF was maxed out with HP tuners so I looked at the UCon logs and used that as the stopping point for the MAF comparison. Obviously there is a lot more than just air flow that should be compared, but I don't have the knowledge to do that unfortunately.

Intake air temp 73*F HPTuner Log
Intake air temp 60*F UCon Log
    3rd gear pull MAF readings:
    4000RPMs
    UCon: 243.6 g/s
    HPT: 241.93 g/s

    4500RPMs
    UCon: 277.03 g/s
    HPT: 278.03 g/s

    5000RPMs

    UCon: 309.4 g/s
    HPT: 312.52 g/s

    5237RPMs
    UCon: 321.5 g/s
    HPT: 323.9 g/s

    4th gear MAF readings:
    4600RPMs
    UCon: 283.7 g/s
    HPT: 285.06g/s

    5000RPMs
    UCon: 306.8g/s
    HPT: 313.20g/s

    5217RPMs
    UCon: 318.2 g/s
    HPT: 323.85g/s

Overall, I'd say working with Justin to get an HPTune that is custom for your truck is a big upgrade for drivability and the ability to tailor the tune to your particular upgrades. The power delivery and the transition between shifts feels smoother, and I really like the idea of using the stock ECU to keep things simple and reliable. If you are on the fence about this, I'd say that it is well worth it.

If yall have any questions, please feel free to ask away

I really need to get to sending you another log. The hesitation off idle from a stop is so hot or miss though. Sometimes it does it. Others it does not.

I appreciate the opportunity to do the comparison and have you tune the truck. I found it pretty interesting myself.

Don't sweat it man, life happens, just get around to it whenever you have a chance! I'm in no rush at all
